Classroom Management
What is Classroom Management and why is it important?
Classroom management consists of different techniques that can be applied in a classroom setting that will reduce disruptive behavior and maximize student learning.
Classroom management consists of having clear rules and consequences in order to eliminate unwanted behaviors and maximize instruction.
The purpose of classroom management is to make learning achievable, routines, planning and organizing needs to take place. It all boils down to actively monitoring the students and anticipating potential scenarios that might arise.
Classroom & Time Management
I wish there was a magic formula to make your lessons more effective. As we know, all classes and students are different so no one single strategy is a one size fits all. Reflect on the following classroom and time management practices:
What skills and techniques, if any, do you currently use to ensure that your classroom runs smoothly, without disruptive behavior from students?
How do you currently manage your time?
How long will each activity be? Why?
When and how will you take Attendance?
When, where and how will students turn in assignments?
How will you begin your class/lesson?
Routines I Use Daily!
These few techniques have proven to increase student engagement and created a safe learning environment. Taking attendance is simple. Having constant hands-on labs and activities run smoothly with pre-made lab setups before students arrive to class. Students no longer ask “What is today’s date?” or “What is your email?”. Students have set routines in place as they arrive and leave the classroom with Do Nows (Bell Ringers) and Exit Tickets.
