Who is the face behind Teaching Biology is Fun?
Hi! My name is Maria Martinez. I am a biology and biomedical teacher, STEM mentor, and lover of all things engaging to students and teachers.
I’m a Texas native who loves to be indoors and spend quality time with my family. After graduating with my Bachelors in Biology, I was eager to learn more so I decided to pursue a Masters in Teaching.
In 2013, after finishing my Masters in Teaching from Texas A&M International University (TAMIU), I completed the Alternative Certification Program (ACP) and landed my first job at a middle school. I spent 2 years there teaching science grades 6-8 and enjoyed their spunky personalities and excitement for inquiry labs and hands-on experiences.
In 2017, a job opportunity opened at a school campus closer to home and I transitioned to a high school where I’m currently teaching. I have taught biology, PLTW Principles of Biomedical Science, Human Body Systems and AP Biology at the high school level and love preparing students for college and their future careers as biomedical professionals.
In 2018-2020, I completed my Doctorate of Education in Curriculum and Instruction coursework and due to COVID paused while working on Chapter 2 of my dissertation.
In 2021, I became a PLTW Biomedical Master Teacher where I get the opportunity to mentor teachers and students in the STEM Curriculum and biomedical field career pathways.
In 2022, I passed the Principal as an Instructional Leader 268 Exam and I continue to prepare for the 368 Exam.
