“Unimersiv is the largest platform for VR educational experiences. Our VR app (available for the Cardboard and Daydream VR headsets) includes multiple field trips (from the ISS to the Acropolis of Athens) that will let you learn using Virtual Reality.”- Google Play
Justification:
The virtual reality is the newest field seated in the technology world. In a near future the virtual reality will be part of our classes such as computers or digital blackboards as it gives you the chance of learning by doing. Research state that students remember 20% of what they hear, 30% of what they see and up to 90% of what they do or simulate
This is a fantastic tool to learn through simulation, so students will live what they are learning. In other words, they will acquire knowledge through real experiences.
“SiLAS is a browser-based web app that allows students to act out social scenes using video game pads and microphones to control their 3D avatars.”- Chris Aviles
Justification:
It’s a way of learning English through real interaction. Sometimes it’s difficult to do telecollaboration with another school, as you have to fit the timetables, the objectives, etc. Using this app, you are able to recreate interaction situations that students will have to face in a near future.
“Plickers lets you poll your class for free, without the need for student devices. Just give each student a card (a “paper clicker”), and use your Android smartphone or tablet to scan them to do instant checks-for-understanding, exit tickets, and impromptu polls.”- Google Play
Justification:
In some schools you don’t have too much tablets or computers to do a Quizziz or Kahoot. This app is perfect for situations in which you don’t have lots of technological devices. You only need a mobile phone and papers with different QR codes fo each student. Also it allows you to assess your students and yourself, as you know when you are scanning the QR codes if the student has the correct answer (understood the content) or not.
“Edpuzzle is an easy and effective way to deliver videos in the classroom. Video is no longer a passive experience, with Edpuzzle video comes to life with audio-notes and questions. An interactive an unique experience for your students. Make any video your lesson.”- Google Play
Justification:
If you want to work listening and reading that’s a good app to do it. EDpuzzle allows the personalized learning, as each child watch and ask the questions from the teacher in the time she or he needs. Also, students can go back and forth as many times as they need to listen carefully the part of the video which the question make reference to. Finally, add that if there is a video with complex parts regarding the grammar or vocabulary, the teacher can record himself or herself to adapt it to the students. That’s good because sometimes is quite difficult to find suitable videos in English for children, as the content fits but not the language level.
“MadLipz lets you make instant voiceover parodies and share it with everyone. You could be the creator of the next viral meme!”- Google Play
Justification:
This is a great application to work the speaking and writing skills as students have to invent their dialogues and afterwards record it. Also the videos are short, so it does not take a lot of time to do it and in that way students doesn’t get bored as they finish and have to find a new video.
An example of a language learning situation this resource could fit in:
Students have to write about one day in the Roman Empire. In order to know what to write, they will be transported, using Unimersiv app, to this age in order to experience how a patrician, slave or merchant lives.
After living in this virtual reality, students will have to write using the past tense what they have experienced. Finally they, will read it aloud to know if it happened the same to their students or not. As the answer will be “NO”, students will have to guess why this happened doing a research work.
