Aikido is a Japanese martial art founded on the principle of non-violence — using an opponent's own force and momentum against them rather than meeting aggression with aggression. Unlike striking-based martial arts, Aikido teaches redirection, balance, and control. It is one of the few martial arts that is equally effective for children, adults, women, and seniors — because it does not rely on size, strength, or age to work.
The word Aikido translates to "the way of harmonious spirit." It is a discipline that develops not just physical skill, but mental clarity, emotional composure, and genuine confidence in any situation. Aikido is practiced worldwide and is rooted in the teachings of founder Morihei Ueshiba, whose philosophy emphasized protection — of oneself and of others — without unnecessary harm.
Arena Aikido Club is affiliated with Aikido Philippines, which is in turn affiliated with the Aikido World Headquarters — Hombu Dojo, Japan. This means every technique taught at Arena Aikido Club is grounded in authentic, internationally recognized Aikido tradition.
Regular Aikido classes are held every Saturday and Sunday 11 am at Fisher Mall, 4th Floor, Quezon City. Classes are open to all ages and all levels year-round — children, adults, seniors, and complete beginners are all equally welcome.
On your first day, you will be welcomed into a calm, respectful training environment with no pressure and no intimidation. Sessions begin with a warm-up, followed by foundational Aikido movements, basic falling and rolling techniques, and your first partner exercises. Sensei Arra and the senior students will guide you through every step at your own pace. No prior martial arts experience is required — in fact, many students find it easier to learn Aikido without prior training in other styles, as there are no habits to unlearn.
Arena Aikido Club follows the traditional dojo structure — with mutual respect between all students and coaches as the foundation of every class. Parents of younger students are welcome to observe. The training environment is family-friendly, safe, and consistently supportive.

Aikido Philippines is a member organization affiliated with the Aikido World Headquarters, Hombu Dojo, in Tokyo, Japan — the highest governing body of Aikido worldwide. This affiliation ensures that all training, gradings, and certifications at Arena Aikido Club meet authentic international Aikido standards.

Is Aikido effective for real self-defense? Yes. Aikido techniques are specifically designed for real-world situations — particularly for defenders who may be smaller or outnumbered. The focus on leverage, timing, and redirection makes it highly practical regardless of the attacker's size or strength.
Is Aikido safe for children? Yes. Aikido is one of the safest martial arts for children because it does not involve striking. Training develops coordination, discipline, focus, and confidence in a structured and respectful environment.
Can seniors practice Aikido? Absolutely. The flowing, low-impact nature of Aikido makes it one of the most accessible martial arts for older practitioners. It improves balance, mobility, and mental sharpness without placing excessive strain on the body.
Is Aikido good for women? Yes — Aikido is particularly well-suited for women because its techniques are designed to work against larger and stronger attackers without requiring matching strength. It is one of the most empowering self-defense systems a woman can learn.
Do I need any prior martial arts experience? No experience is required. Complete beginners are welcome and will be guided through every technique step by step from their very first class.
