Level of students: 7th form - intermediate
Duration: 90 minutes
This lesson is ideal for the beginning of the year, in which students and teacher do not know each other well.
Previous class:
The teacher made students sit with one or two classmates that they can chose. She gave the group a sheet of paper with some personal question (one sheet to each student). Some of the questions will be the following ones:
- What´s your name?
- Where do you live?
- Describe your family?
- Do you have any hobby?
- What is your favourite sport, superhero, celebrity, etc.
Students answered the questions individually in a complete and accurate way .
WARMER: The following lesson students will sit together with the group and they will share their answers. In a separate sheet of paper they will point out which thing do they sahe with their partners and which are completely different. The teacher will monitor de activity by listening at students and correcting the grammar when necessary
WEB: Students and teacher will go to the lab room with the questions they have answered in the classroom and they will sit at the computer with their group (which was previously decided in the classroom). They will watch a short and easy tutorial on Slide.com, a very creative and easy way to create presentations. Afterwards, they will create one slide presentation in each group, they will introduce themselves by using the information they have in the sheets of paper. They will create some slides individually (helping each other) and adding their personal information. They will also add new slides with some information that all the members of the group share. They will upload photos, add videos and hyperlink in order to make a complete work. The teacher will leave the last 15 minutes of the class to share the presentations. Students will show them and explain anything necessary.
The teacher will send their presentations to other classes in order to exchange them with students in the school who are not classmates so they can learn from each other
WHAT´S NEXT: Back in the classroom, the teacher will ask the students what new information they have learnt about their classmates. This is a great activity for them in order to know each other more and become friends

The use of Slides.com in the classroom can be analized as following:
Engagement: Teachers may often feel that students are engaged in an activity because they are swiping through a device. For instance, when working on activities in the computer room and using old devices. This leads to a “false engagement” in which tasks do not usually meet any learning goal. The idea of using slides.com, a modern tool helps students work using language in a more meaningful context in which they can show the whole class about themselves. By searching images and videos they will also be engaged in order to work with the net in a different way. When using new modern and creative tools, students will feel more motivated to start the learning process and become active social learners.
Enhancement: Sometimes, learning about other people and listening to them becomes a tiring activity among young learners. They lose concertation and get bored quickly. By using new techniques and modern technology tools which go beyond engagement, this behaviour can be changed. It refers to how technology can aid, assist and scaffold learning in a way that could not be achieved by traditional methods. It creates opportunities of creation and production over consumption and technology helps students understand ideas and concepts in a better and different way.
Extension: Teachers are always looking for ways to connect what happens in the classroom with the real world. Fortunately, technology can help make these connections. In other words, technology can aid bridge the gap between classroom learning and students’ everyday lives. By using slides.com in this activity, students can connect their personal likes and dislikes with anything they can find on the net, and they can show it to their partners without even having to explain much. They can also share their work with distant partners in the school or even in another city. It creates opportunities for students to learn outside of their typical school day and help them build skills that they can use in their everyday lives.
PLANIED
In 2015 the Ministry of Education developed a Digital Competence Framework as part of Plan Nacional de Educación Digital (PLANIED) which aims at promoting digital literacy in the school system.
Six dimensions were identified in terms of the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to be digitally competent in today’s society. These dimensions can be fully developed in this lesson:
