Hello, guys! Today I’ve got an amazing tool for you: The Info-Graph Maker from Venngage. As I have mentioned before, visuals are quite useful for helping students acquire information. In the case of Venngage, the website allows you to create your own infographic piece which you can edit for free, although downloading it is only available for paid members.
Venngage allows you to choose any kind of template to create your own infographic piece, although you will be required Premium Membership in order to gain full access to all templates. Also you can make keyword searches to find specific templates if you want. Below the search bar, we can sort for: Recommended, Featured, Designs, and See All.
As we see here, the infographic builder is not different from any illustrator software. On the side we have option to edit different parts of the picture: Icons, Backgrounds, and Text. We can use two colors and balance their presence and the Background can be colored and given a solid or gradient pattern. The template includes some colors by default, but you can add more colors later.
These arrows are for putting objects at the front or bottom of the infograph. This way, some object will be covered by others and give a depht effect.
Once you think your piece is ready, you can share with your friends online!
Vocabulary Focus: Journalism
Time: 2 Hours
Number of Students: 25
Age: 14-15
Communicative Purpose: Writing Informative Articles
Grammar: Past Simple.
Context: Learners have read articles in order to explore the vocabulary and structure that is utilized in news articles. This time, the teacher will provide learners with online tools in order to build up and organize acquired vocabulary so that they can use it in order to create their own graphic pieces.
Learners will gather in groups depending on their topics. They will discuss their findings and vocabulary found.
They will use the Venngage’s Infographic Application to create a visual piece based on their research. They can use both the diagram and the mind-maps they made.
As part of the final part of the lesson, pupils will organize a virtual tour where they will show their finished projects to each other.
Due to Venngage's sharing feature, learners will be able to share their projects beyond the calssroom and and be more active in the search for knowledge.
Online tools now allow them to find information while the classroom becomes more a place were pupils organize.
In this case, Venngage serves as a substitute for physical projects, as it provides learners with a large variety of images they can save online or share it on the web.
Venngage also simplifies the task of organizing the pupils' final project thanks to its electronic storage.
For this lesson, the ability to interconnect content, pedagogy and technology is a key element that can help learner's development to advance, such as how this technology can help develop students's autonomy.
