The teacher will acknowledge how satisfied she has been towards the students commitment with the topic they have been working on. This lesson will be the last one devoted to this topic. As closure, the teacher will write one word on the board and ask one student to come to the front and write another word related to it, and then another student can make a connection with that last word so that everyone can contribute and show how much they have learnt.
As the teacher saw that students got into this issue, she decided to give the students the opportunity to continue debating and giving advice to those who may not be aware of the negative impact that climate change has in our every day lives. That's why she will go to the next step.
The board might look like this one.
This last lesson will take place in the lab once more.
The teacher will explain to the students that she created a blog that will be the course blog in which students will be able to post their findings on the topic and how they feel about it. In the blog, other students can comment and ask questions. Every week, one student will be in charge of posting on the blog.
The teacher will introduce wix as a tool that will accompany them in this journey. As the blog is already created, the teacher will have to give everyone the username and password so that all the students can have the chance to be in charge of posting every week. They can post in pairs or not, it is up to the students. Every time they post, they can write their names and give others the posibility to comment on the post and ask questions to those students who are in charge.
In the blog they can post different findings, articles from newspaper, different news they have heard and even their personal opinion.
The teacher will provide a tutorial so that students get to know wix as it is a website that can be used in the future, not only for educational purposes (in this case, it has an educational purpose.)
Once in a while, they can make some changes as well, such as the font, the background, etc.
As students explore the tool, they can see the different tools they can use to make their posts more engaging. They can add text, images, videos, music, shapes and more.
The teacher chose the category education and found one template related to education and what to do for our environment.
When they finish editing or exploring, they will have to log out as was indicated in the tutorial the teacher provided.
Once in the classroom, the students will have to write some ideas in their notebooks to show the teacher what they think their posts would be like when they are in charge of posting.
The teacher will ask them to read their ideas aloud. When one student speaks, the others can make comments, or give other ideas in an organized way so that when the time of posting comes, it is clear what they have to do.
Evaluation criteria
Once the students publish their ideas in the blog, the teacher will evaluate the whole process students have been through while working with the topic in question. She will give students a self-assessment sheet to complete so that she gets to know what they learnt and how they felt while working. She will also complete a rubric for each student according to the way they worked and the final product they got. The options the teacher chooses in the rubric will end up giving a mark.
Theoretical support
Planied aims at promoting digital literacy in the school system. This can be explained by six dimensions identified in terms of knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to be digitally competent.
1. Creativity and innovation: Students will be using wix to create content in a blog which refers to the subject matter of the three lessons (climate change). They will be adding and deleting text, pictures and more in order to create their posts.
2. Communication and sharing: This blog can be shared with a wide range of people. The audience can access the blog to get to know what it is about, but students will be safe in the sense that the teacher will be monitoring what her/his students are doing.
3. Information management: Students will retrieve, select and organize information as that is the main purpose of the blog.
4. Participation in a responsible way: Students will be monitored by the teacher. They will be to act in a responsible and sensible way as the blog has educational purposes and one of the main aims of the creation of the blog is to post real issues and interact with others (such as classmates) in an organised and responsible way.
5. critical thinking skills in a digital environment which covers
problem-solving, developing projects and making informed decisions when using online
resources: Students are to convey information related to a real problem in the world and the possible solutions to it. They should take a responsible role so as to solve the problem they present.
6. Autonomous use of ICT: Once the students get to know the tool by reading and interiorizing on its content, advantages, etc (with the help of the teacher at the very begining and then on their own,) students will be accomplishing a task made by themselves.
NAPs have been written considering the fundamental principles that the teaching of a foreign language must sustain in school context. They contemplate the elements of a given language emphasizing its role in the construction of the sociocultural identity of children, adolescents and adults of our country. NAPs focuses on the relationship among languages and cultures as well.
There are six areas taken into account: Listening comprehension, oral production, written production, reading comprehension, language awareness and intercultural reflection. This lesson will be analized according to these areas.
By posting in the blog students will be writing what they believe is true and they can add personal experiences as well. Students will also need to read information retrieved by different sources to understand about the topic so that then, they can pass it on to the blog post. When engaged in a debate students have to give opinions and comment on others' point of view, support or refuse others' ideas. While writing on the blog, they will have to be aware of the differences between their mother tongue and the foreign language being learnt. The topic they are tackling concerns everyone, so they will have to develop cultural awareness in the sense that as everyone is involved, they will have to understand the reality of other people being victims of the negative impacts of climate change, so when they write their blogposts they can address every person in the world.
