The Guld of Maine spans from the southern tip of Nova Scotia to the northern coast of Cape Cod, Massachusetts. It is nourished by cold water currents and characterized by a complex bathymetry made up of deep basins and shallow banks, making this sea semi-enclosed sea is one of the most biologically productive marine ecosystems. The northerly Labrador Current and the southerly Gulf Stream meet in the Gulf of Maine, creating a counter-clockwise gyre that delivers nutrients around the entire Gulf.
