Moles can be thought of as any other unit of measurement. So we are going to go back to dimensional analysis (yay!)
Steps to mole-mole problems:
Identify what information we are given and what we need to find.
given: ⅔ of a mole of CO2 , find: moles of O2
Create a conversion factor or stoichiometric ratio from the balanced equation.
We need 2 oxygen for each 1 carbon dioxide.
2O2/CO2
Multiply the given by the conversion factor.
⅔ CO2 x 2O2/CO2 = 4/3 O2 *
*Notice that the only unit leftover is O2 because there is CO2 in the numerator and denominator, and therefore cancel out.
