RESOURCE GUIDEBOOK FOR EDUCATORS
History of Muslims in Canada
OBJECTIVE:
The objective for this section is to provide educators with supplementary materials that include the history of Muslims in Canada. Often the history of minority communities are overlooked in the curriculum and this section will help provide a more fulsome historical experience for students and educators alike. The chapter titled “Home is People” from Dany Assaf's book, “Say Please and Thank You & Stand in Line: One Man'sStory of What Makes Canada Special, and How to Keep ItThat Way” has been reproduced with permission from the author and publisher in order add depth and perspective to the Canadian Muslim pioneer experience. Learning about the presence of Muslims in Canada and sharing the pioneer experience will help create a broad understanding in the historical context and dispel outdated stereotypes.
