Spotlight: Matthew Edwards – 2023 State Champion

In 2023, Matthew Edwards delivered a historic performance at the Colorado 3A State Championship, crossing the finish line in a record-setting time of 15:20.7. His victory marked his second individual state title and helped lead the Titans to a team championship sweep.

On the boys side we've got five seniors who've invested a lot over a long period of time and I told them last night, they have the kind of team that I always dreamed of having as athlete. And it's just been fun to go alongside them on that journey."

Matthew's state title and team championship capped off a historic season for the boys. The 5 seniors (Edwards, Nathan Meister, Logan Halla, David Ahnfeldt and Kieran Cameron), paired with junior Noah Askew and sophomore Grant Fleenor cruised through the season with impressive wins at the prestigious Liberty Bell Invitational, the Rim Rock Classic in Kansas and the Kadet Invitational at Air Academy. They ran through regionals taking the top 4 spots and 6 of the top 7. At state, all 5 scorers finished in the top 20. A season ending injury to Nathan Meister proved too much to overcome at NXR in their bid to qualify for Nike Nationals but shouldn't diminish from a dominant season and a lasting legacy for the group of seniors. 

Spotlight: Kaitlin Hannenburg – 2008 State Champion

In 2008, Kaitlin Hannenburg claimed her second of three consecutive individual state titles, leading the Titans to another team championship. Her legacy helped establish a winning tradition that continues to inspire future generations of TCA runners.

Hanenburg's state title capped a dominant regular season for the Titans where they won every meet they entered. The 4 scorers (in 2008 only the top 4 scored not top 5 like today) totaled 16 points finishing 1, 3, 5, and 7. That crew of Hanenburg, Shelby Stableford, Emily Lavalley and Kassie Mazzocco) would then go on to finish 2nd at Nike Southwest Regionals and earn TCA's first ever spot at Nike Nationals in Oregon. The next season, they would one-up themselves by scoring 15 points at the state championship and qualifying again for Nike Nationals making 2008 and 2009 the greatest 2 year stretch in TCA's storied history.
