Since 2007 a really special aspect of our cross country experience is the annual trip to suburban Phoenix for the Nike South West Regional Championship. It is outside the CHSAA-sanctioned season and thus, not sponsored or funded by TCA. It's a super fun trip, but is one I expect kids to take the racing portion very seriously, meaning we'll practice daily up until the race. NXR brings together all the best runners and teams from Colorado, Utah, New Mexico, Arizona and Nevada. Thousands of kids run in the meet, over multiple races on the same day. Our boys and girls teams often qualify for the championship race and hope to again this year. It is a great opportunity to see the sport through a larger, wider lens, which often is inspiring and encouraging that we can achieve even more. The kids who go almost all report it is a really fun time to take an exciting trip to a beautiful and warm spot, and with the lower-elevation and conditions, often run significant 5k PRs. I would love as many kids, who want to train hard for the three weeks after state to go down there and run really fast!
