Ambivalence

"The West is not the West. It is a project, not a place."
- Edouard Glissant

The ambiguous way in which coloniser and colonised regard one another:  The coloniser often regards the colonised as both inferior yet exotically "Other" and therefore there is a sense of curiosity and wonder, while the colonised regards the coloniser as both enviable yet corrupt, wishing to imitate but oppressing & erasing.  In a context of hybridity, this often produces a mixed sense of blessing and curse.
