This page is meant to provide an overview of resources and networks that I use for educational purposes relating to teaching, instruction, and coaching. The resources are from a wider variety of sources, and I have also included sections to provide exemplars of session plans and projects of mine.
A community of practice is invaluable for those who work in the larger field of education. When I mention "larger field," I am referencing anyone that works to train and develop others. That can be a coach of a basketball team, a swimming instructor, or a work-place trainer. These roles have the tendency to become isolating because the contact with others in similar positions is limited, and in some circumstances there may be a level of competition for work and clients. Despite the difficulties, the potential gain from being apart of a community of practice are well worth it.
On the maps presented below, I have laid out a variety of networks that I have access to. Some of them have developed into a community of practice.
Throughout my studies and work experience, I have been a member of a variety of communities. Within some of the communities I am an active member, while others I maintain basic connections. These communities serve as a resource for professional development, continuity, and sources of inspiration. It is not possible for me to map out all of the communities that I am involved with, so I am displaying those that are significant in much of my work.
Below are resources that I have compiled from work in Outdoor Adventure Education (OAE) and Adventure Sports. Several of these resources I have created, but most of the ideas I owe to countless colleagues, friends, and trainers that shared their thoughts and ideas with me.
This is an exemplar group journal for Outdoor Adventure Education (OAE). It was specifically designed for delivery of curriculum and courses at Outward Bound Hong Kong.
