Communicate to Create and Support Diverse and Equitable Communities

This research prospectus demonstrates my ability to apply communication theories and concepts to better understand and navigate intercultural interactions in digital spaces. In this project, I examined how cultural backgrounds (U.S. vs. non-U.S.) shape the perception of nonverbal immediacy in virtual communication. By using theories from Andersen and McCroskey, I focused my research around how behaviors like eye-contact and gestures are interpreted cross-culturally, specifically in an online domain. This project demonstrates my capability to thoroughly research and apply theories to my own thesis. I was able to develop my critical thinking skills, writing, and cross-cultural knowledge throughout this whole process.
