Moth to the Moon is a puzzle game focused around the concept of being able to remove and replace nearly any object in the game's levels. This power is balanced by the limited mobility and reach of the protagonist, resulting in a brain-teasing experience with level designs that are simultaneously challenging and open-ended.
Originally envisioned as a short tech demo, playtesters found the core concepts and mechanics so fascinating that it inspired me to turn my simple project into a full-length game. Moth to the Moon is now jam-packed with a huge variety of items, obstacles, enemies, bosses, secrets, and additional content!
Illustrated all of the game's graphical assets, including sprites, backgrounds, and scenes
Programmed a detailed state machine to handle every potential player interaction
Created a lengthy 50-level campaign full of unique, thought-provoking challenges
Developed a variety of "boss" minigames along with true boss battles
Assembled a fully-functional custom level editor with saving and loading capabilities
Implemented time trials and secret exits to reward exploration and enhance replayability
Fleshed out the game's personality with unlockable "diary" pages and other goodies
(Accidentally) created a protagonist who is beloved by players
Returned to the project later on in 2022 to please fans with all-new bonus content!
