A donation of the latest Drone technology to TAS will enable improved recording. Thanks to Dee!
The image indicates our latest trench (7) which shows the darker top soil. A post hole was identified and tested we produced with our first main trench (5). We were required to have barrier tape around the trench. When the post was removed the hole filled in and we found it again recently once we de-turfed! In the same trench you can see one of many test pits (test 11) that were used across a field by TAS to determine where to start an excavation in 2015. The back fill by TAS will be removed next before the surrounding older top soil is then taken down. Several flint tools have already been discovered in this soil which had been brought towards the surface by ploughing prior to 1950.
The trench (6) is at its end of evaluation with all the archaeological associated data has been evaluated. It has provided evidence from prehistory of people (predominantly the neolithic before Stone henge as we know it now was erected). This has included small pits, post holes, stake holes, numerous stone tools, many patterns of quartz pebbles, burnt stones and of course flint tools.
Recent find from Sieving the top soil on a farm site: A silver coin, originally four pennies value in todays money around £140. However it would have been a sore loss providing several meals. The coin is heavily worn , therefore may have been in use for 20 to 30 years before falling through a hole in someone's trousers. These 'groats ' were used through out many of the Kings and Queens of England.
