Model: Octopus
From: Kamiori Studio
By: Tomoaki Hamanaka
Paper: 15cm red, yellow and blue polka dot kraft paper
I was attracted to this octopus model because it starts off with a 16-square grid, just like you might fold for a tessellation. It utilizes a lot of accordion folding techniques to get 8 limbs. By using 3 different bright colored papers, I could partially recreate a Splatoon tricolor turf war.

Model: Chinese Thread Book
From: Paula's Orihouse
By: Paula Versnick
Paper: White sketch paper (1 9"x9"; 2 9"x4.5"; 4 4.5"x4.5"; 24 4.5"x2.25")
There are numerous variations on the Chinese Thread Book, a type of item holder with pockets stacked on top of pockets. Each layer doubles the number of pockets, and the model can be scaled up as many layers as one wishes. The most common version appears to be the 31 pocket version (1 large square, 2 medium rectangles, 4 medium squares, 8 small rectangles, and 16 small squares.) In this version, the smallest square pocket includes a chrysanthemum motif, hence the usage of the same size paper used for the 8 small rectangular pockets.

Paper: 15cm red/dark red biotope, 15cm duo ombre pink haze/scarlet dusk
Starting to learn how to make roses from Sato's book. Some roses start from square and some from pentagons cut from the square. The duo ombre paper provides a nice contrast between the black and colored sides, while biotope provides a solid color throughout.

Paper: 24cm blue origami paper
This cute little jellyfish includes four long tentacles and two fin-like tentacles. After folding so many triangle grids for tesselations, the hexagon shape of the bell felt extremely familiar.

Paper: 15cm pearl, hologram, origami paper
These look similar to the traditional basic goldfish model, but tesselation provides a unique scale pattern on the side. Using reflective paper provides additional texture, although they doesn't fold as flat as basic paper. A little tape was used to secure the backs of the pearl and hologram versions as otherwise the paper doesn't hold its shape well enough.

Paper: 15cm dark grey, 15cm x 7.5cm light grey Tant
This was folded for a friend, and used a little glue to secure the coat to the body. The tesselation used to generate the texture in the coat what attracted me to the model.

Paper: 25cm, 15cm, 10cm, various colors of origami and Tant paper (3 sheets per model)
These balls use 3 sheets of paper; two for the halves and one half-sheet for the belt. This means they have a working hinge and close neatly -- and you can put something inside of them. While a pokémon or other animal model is probably the most appropriate, I ended up just nesting a few balls instead.

Paper: Various sizes, up to 32in x 16in
These bowls use odd cuts of paper but interlock very tightly into a beautiful and functional object. With truely massive sheets of paper, you can make a large bowl to hold all sorts of things.

Paper: Large brown washi paper
This was folded as a prop Mr. Grizz statue from Splatoon 2's Salmon Run mode. It was used during Anime Expo 2019's Ultimate Karaoke Fighting Championship contest. The challenge for this round was for the two contestants to play "Salmon Run" on stage, trying to gather orange ballpit balls ("salmon eggs") while avoiding the karaoke staffers throwing other colored ballpit balls at them (and other obstacles), as the salmon run song played in the background.
