Non-Player Characters (NPCs) are characters that fill important roles within the canon of the Tales from Equestria Alternate Universe. They can be utilized by any creator, as long as depictions do not stray from information laid out about them in the canon. Straying from established information on these characters could constitute a Spinoff AU, as would replacing them in any role that they play within the canon.
Personality Traits: Earnest, empathetic, hardworking, and introspective.
History: The current ruler of Equestria, she is the successor to Princess Luster Dawn. Rumors suggest her ascension and coronation were rushed in light threats posed by Wild Magic. She assisted Princess Luster Dawn in her fight against the expanding influence of Wild Magic for decades. Eventually she started taking over the day-to-day management of Equestria, while Princess Luster Dawn sought an end to Wild Magic as a whole. There was little formal transition between the rule of the two princesses in the end, however, as Princess Luster Dawn went missing on one of her expeditions. It takes a great deal of power to consistently protect Canterlot and rarely gives her he opportunity to leave.
Asexual
Personality Traits: Calm, snarky, honest, focused, and steadfast.
History: Sword Dancer doesn't share much about her background. Her fellow knights do know that she was a refugee from the wilds...and when she arrived as a child, already bearing her facial scars, she was mildly feral. Through discipline and hard work she entered the Knights of Equestria and has been a rock among the forces ever since.
Heterosexual
Personality Traits: Headstrong, brazen, serious (job), silly (everything else), romantic, and outgoing.
History: True Heart's father was a mailpony and her mother was a school teacher, so joining the Daywatch Guard was extremely unusual for True Heart. Those that knew her personally thought it was a bad idea, assuming she'd treat it as humorously as everything else in her life. Much to everyone's surprise, though, Guard duties were something she took almost too seriously, to the point where she intimidated some of her fellow recruits. She's one of the youngest guards to rise in the ranks in the history of Canterlot.
Bisexual
Personality Traits: Socially awkward, loner, serious, grumpy, and aloof.
History: Dark Wing comes from a long line of bat ponies, though his family's bloodline has gotten thinner and thinner over the generations. Rumors say his ancestors were Princess Luna's personal guard. With so few bat ponies being born among his family now, he feels immense pressure to keep the Nightwatch Guard running smoothly. He's more street smart than book smart, but his expertise among the guard is well-known and respected.
Homosexual
Personality Traits: Boisterous, sociable, talkative, proud, and scholarly.
History: Jade Caster was born into a family of great unicorn mages and always knew he would attend the Canterlot School of Magic. He lived and breathed magical studies since he was a child, making little time for anything else besides general socializing. He rarely leaves the safety of Canterlot himself and holds great disdain towards Wild Magic and the mess he believes it has made of the once glorious Equestria. He is a childhood friend of Night Wing's and has a soft spot for the grumpy bat pony. He loathes Professor Golden Sage, as he feels efforts should be put towards eradicating Wild Magic, not studying it.
Bisexual
Personality Traits: Patient, diplomatic, erudite, and stoic.
History: Golden Sage was born of a union between a zebra and a high level Canterlot mage. Though some might argue this caused difficulties socially for her family, Golden Sage had access to both formal, written academia, and the oral traditions and customs of a variety of cultures throughout her youth. She was raised to appreciate knowledge and wisdom in all its forms, leading her into a path of academia through the School of Friendship. Fearless in the pursuit of truth, she is one of the leading experts on Wild Magic and other magical traditions and forms across the world. While she holds personal ill-will towards Headmaster Jade Castor, she finds his narrow-minded approach to Wild Magic frustrating and counterproductive.
