Educate Item 1: TALE published advocacy-related information in TALE newsletters.

​TALE's Advocacy Development committee published advocacy information related to advocacy efforts in the following TALE newsletters:

Volume 8, Issue 4

Volume 9, Issue 2

These newsletters were emailed to TALE members and posted for public access on TALE's website. Advocacy-related information included committee changes in lieu of a non-legislative year, information about advocacy award recipients, and an overview of advocacy activities in the midst of a pandemic.

Education Item 5: TALE created a QR code to promote advocacy among TALE members.

One of TALE's Advocacy Development committee members, Dr. Sara Ranzau, created a resource on the TALE website that was easily accessible through a QR code. The Advocacy committee passed out bookmarks with the QR code to encourage TALE members to become involved in advocacy efforts, learn about current legislative and policy issues, and how to contact their representatives. This QR code also provided a way to share contact information for elected officials on TALE's social media platforms.

TALE's peer-reviewed journal published the two following issues that disseminated research- and practitioner-oriented information to educate other literacy stakeholders about legislative issues and literacy practices. Articles from these issues included:

Educate Item 14: TALE published their annual conference proceedings.

In September 2019, TALE published the Texas Association for Literacy Education Yearbook, Volume 6: Discover the Heart of Literacy. This publication served as the conference proceedings from the 2019 TALE Conference, which was themed "Discovering the Heart of Literacy." The 2019 TALE Yearbook contained peer-reviewed articles submitted by conference presenters who promoted research-based practices for literacy. Educate Item 14: TALE facilitated high-quality professional learning and networking during the 2020 TALE Conference.

The TALE 2020 Conference brought together approximately 350 literacy stakeholders from Texas and beyond. The primary purposes of the conference were to offer high-quality professional learning focused on research-based literacy practices and provide valuable networking opportunities for literacy professionals. The TALE 2020 Conference was proudly hosted by The University of Texas Permian Basin College of Education on February 28th & 29th. Attendees were invited to “Leap Into Literacy!” as they enjoyed inspirational and informative presentations by keynote speakers Dr. Laurie Sharp, Donalyn Miller, Kylene Beers and Bob Probst. Also offered were high quality sessions, workshops, round tables, and research poster presentations on a wide variety of relevant topics including Dyslexia and the new ELAR TEKS in Texas.

Educate Item 14: TALE honored an outstanding individual as a literacy leader.

TALE honored an outstanding individual, Jessica Rickman, as literacy leader at the 2020 TALE Conference. Principal Rickman was nominated by TALE members who recognized her significant contributions with literacy and literacy education.
