Thank you for visiting our web page!
Our group conducts research in colloid and interfacial chemistry, focusing on (i) colloid transport phenomena in environmental systems and (ii) flow phenomena of colloidal dispersions that are important in industrial and engineering processes. While our work is primarily experimental, we also make active use of theoretical models and simulations, and we aim to advance our research by comparing and integrating these approaches.
We also continuously pursue fundamental studies, using colloid-chemical approaches, to support the prediction of the environmental fate and transport of nano- and microplastic particles, whose impacts have raised increasing concern in recent years.
JOIN US!
In our group, we study colloidal aggregation and dispersion, transport phenomena associated with these processes (such as deposition and detachment), and the rheology and flow behavior of colloidal dispersions, with the goal of understanding and controlling them based on physics and chemistry. Through related research and educational activities, we aim to contribute to fields such as the environment and materials, and to cultivate people who can make such contributions in the future. We welcome members who wish to study “colloid transport and flow phenomena,” making use of knowledge they have learned (or will learn), without being overly constrained by disciplinary boundaries.
For students
We accept laboratory visits (in person or online) at any time. If you are interested in our group, please contact Sugimoto. We encourage you to take this opportunity to learn in advance about our research, the laboratory atmosphere, and our facilities.
For students in the College of Agro-Biological Resource Sciences, prior inquiry is not required. Please come directly to the laboratory (2D119).
Because our group belongs to the Environmental Engineering Course in the College of Agro-Biological Resource Sciences at the University of Tsukuba, students from the College of Agro-Biological Resource Sciences, the School of Integrative and Global Majors, and colleges of technology (KOSEN) are advised to choose the Environmental Engineering Course.
For applicants to our graduate programs, you may apply through either the Agricultural Sciences Degree Program or the Environmental Sciences Degree Program. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.
For Postdoctoral researchers
At present, we do not have funding available to hire postdoctoral researchers. However, if you wish to apply for a JSPS Research Fellowship (PD), we will support you as much as possible—please feel free to consult with us.
