The HAWtech-TAItech Alliance, held a series of events in Berlin to renew their partnership and explore new collaborative opportunities. The alliance includes six German universities: FH Aachen, Hochschule Darmstadt, Hochschule Karlsruhe, Hochschule Esslingen, Hochschule für Technik und Wirtschaft Dresden (HTW Dresden), and Hochschule für Technik und Wirtschaft Berlin (HTW Berlin), along with six Taiwanese universities: National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, National Taipei University of Technology, National Chin-Yi University of Technology, National Yunlin University of Science and Technology, National Formosa University, and National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology.
HAWtech Chairperson and Rector of Hochschule Esslingen, Prof. Dipl.-Ing. Christof Wolfmaier, expressed gratitude to TAItech universities for their visiting. He noted that the COVID-19 pandemic had previously disrupted bilateral activities, including joint roundtable meetings. However, the successful visit held from November 2 to November 11 demonstrated the commitment of both sides to overcoming challenges and maintaining strong exchanges, which he emphasized as a key factor in the alliance's success.
The HAWtech- TAItech Roundtable Meeting took place on November 8, featuring a presentation by YunTech’s Director of International Affairs, Dr. Pan Wei-Hua, who introduced YunTech’s AI platform for matching faculty expertise. Dr. Shieh Chih-Wei, representative of the Taipei Representative Office in Germany, praised the 12 member universities for their dedication to advancing higher education and expressed optimism about the alliance’s future growth. Weng Chin-Ying, Director of the Education Division at the Taipei Representative Office in Germany, also remarked on her long-standing involvement with the alliance. She reflected on her instrumental role in facilitating the formation of the Taiwan-Germany University Alliance in 2017 and expressed her delight at witnessing the continuation of this partnership during her current posting. Additionally, she emphasized the future potential for expanding collaboration by integrating semiconductor talent development programs.
Dr. Pan Wei-Hwa from YunTech shared that the university will step down from the TAItech Chair position next year. However, he assured that YunTech will pass on its valuable experience to the next Chair and continue working closely to realize the alliance’s core goals. These include promoting joint research and teaching, facilitating student exchanges and industry-academia collaboration, and nurturing talent in an increasingly globalized environment.
With renewed momentum from this year’s events, the HAWtech-TAItech Alliance aims to build upon its strong foundation and continue achieving new milestones in the years to come.
