A unique opportunity to develop social AI research within Umeå University
The successful candidate is expected to contribute to research in SAAI by developing multi-agent systems in which the agents are influenced by norms and other social rules, while learning from their experience using these social concepts and thus also slowly shaping new norms and conventions. The theoretical foundations will be based on existing work from our group, but especially the interaction between learning behaviour and social rules is to be explored. In order to test the usability of the developed models we aim to have at least one use case related to social simulation for policy making.
Deadline
13rd october 2023
eSSENCE@LU invites proposals for new projects. Applicants may request 2 years of funding, starting 1 January 2024. We anticipate being able to fund at least five grants with a maximum of 600 kSEK/year (including overhead). The funding could be used, for example, for part-financing a PhD student or a post-doc in Lund. The deadline is Friday 13 October.
The research theme of the selected projects should involve e-Science method development with a connection to computational or data-driven applications, which may be with a scientific problem in mind or for generic use (many possible applications). Collaboration between different groups is necessary for a successful proposal.
More details and instructions how to apply, can be found in the attached document. The call has also been announced as a news item on the compile web site, https://www.compile.lu.se/, which includes a list of FAQs and may be updated with new ones, so it is a good idea to check the announcement web page.

A unique opportunity to engage in social AI research and become a doctor within Umeå University
We will investigate the way institutions emerge and are maintained and how they influence the collective decisions under societal threats such as climate change. We will study this phenomenon from a sociological, psychological and social simulation perspective.
The aim of this position is to develop an agent-based social simulation based on a solid theoretical foundation of social concepts to study institutional developments from a psychological perspective. The theoretical foundations will be based on existing work from our group (https://www.umu.se/en/staff/frank-dignum/), but will link to social psychological theories and social theories. We will link social simulations with large-scale on-line social psychological experiments and social media analysis.
