We also need to create maps for our communities, which requires us to think about how to turn complex geospatial data into readily accessible stories that can be used to educate and engage non-scientists in a meaningful way. We will use the free Google My Maps, Earth Pro, and Earth Web platforms to create maps for public engagement. Our hands-on activities will create maps that you can use for your own work, and we will explore a number of different workflows that will help you to quickly share your data with collaborators and your community.
Our breakout room expert will be Nasbah Ben, who will provide help with projects you may have created (or plan to create) using the Google geotools. If you need help with any aspect of Google My Maps or Google Earth (Pro or Web), or if you are already an expert and want to improve or share your work, this will be a great opportunity to collaborate on your maps.
Fill out the form (you will need to scroll down and click Submit at the bottom). Your answers will be used to populate the Google Spreadsheet below. We will import the spreadsheet into a Google My Maps, and then you will add content to your map marker. Once the group map is complete we can open it in Google Earth Web and view it in 3D. Google Earth will also allow us to view places using Street View.
You can either fill out the form on the website or access the form on your phone with this URL or using the QR Code below

Now we will add content directly to the My Maps. You will need to sign into your Google Account and then click on the map link . The screenshots below show you how to get into edit mode once you get to the map.
You will need to click Sign in, then sign into your Google Account and Click EDIT.
Look for you name in the first layer titled "Where you work" and click on it to open the marker. Click on the pencil icon to get into edit mode. Now type something in the box that says "The best thing about your work"
Do the same for the second layer titled "Place you are proud of" and the third layer titled "Place you are concerned about"
Refresh your screen to see what everyone has added to the map. Please be respectful and don't delete anyone else's work.
Now we can view our map in 3D using Google Earth Web - be patient, it may take a while to load
Click on the three dots to open the menu, then click on View in Google Earth
