Summary
Thank you for taking the time to work through these pages. We hope they have helped you with an introduction to searching systematically in Medline
To summarise, when undertaking a search:
Identify a problem or issue that you are interested in researching
Use PICO to break apart the problem and form it into a research question
Use some of the PICO elements as your initial search concepts (start with 3)
Search Medline, using its built in Subject Headings, for each concept
Use the AND connector to join these concepts together and give you a final set of results
Carry out a second search using free text terms, and limit to the past year - to pick up any new unindexed papers
Have a try following these steps for your own topic
