PICO

The PICO tool works really well for formulating questions about interventions.  However there are other tools (see link on the next page)

Patient/Population/Problem - Who are we looking at?

Intervention - What are we looking at?

Comparison/control - Are we comparing our intervention to another one? *

Outcome - What outcomes are we looking for?

We can use this tool to help us create our research question

*Note that a Comparison can be implied (for example - treatment as usual), or a comparison can be part of the question (for example -physical exercise regime compared to a support group).
