Syosset ELITE (10419) is a robotics team from Syosset High School that is competing in the FTC challenge in 2021. The team is a collective of fourteen 10th grade individuals who have come together in the name of Robotics since 2019. The members of Syosset Elite strive to learn as much as they can about not only robotics, but the First Tech Challenge as well, and work diligently to promote it in their community.

The team’s goal is to build a community that is both enjoyable, determined, and that can accomplish anything that is put in front of them. Syosset ELITE implements the idea of gracious professionalism as the number one priority whenever they work, play, and compete with each other. They emphasize the value of others and respect every single individual as well as the community. This means that they will put up a fierce competition and not give up easily. But most importantly, every member is here to learn and have fun.
Engineering Notebook
Aarian is a sophomore at Syosset High School. He is a builder on the sophomore robotics team, Syosset ELITE. He is interested in architecture, engineering, and computer science. He also takes part in Forensics Speech and Debate. This is his 2nd year in the Syosset Robotics Club program, and learns much from his many teammates who have had prior experiences in Robotics. He enjoys drawing, reading, and hanging out with his friends, many of which are within the team. This year, he hopes to learn how to use the equipment and parts efficiently, to create an unbreakable bond within the team, while working hard to try to qualify past the beginning rounds.
Alex is a sophomore in Syosset High School. He helps out with literally everything. He is interested in robotics, computer science, engineering and tennis. He joined the robotics team to see how programming and building is like. He hopes to learn what programming and engineering is like so those skills can be incorporated in his future job. This is his second year on ELITE, and he hopes to improve his building skills and help lead the team, in the design aspect for competitions.
Head of Engineering Notebook
Anoushka R is a sophomore in Syosset High School. She helps out in Logbooking for team Syosset ELITE. Her interests include writing and science. For the team, she mainly took care of the logbook. She joined robotics to get a better insight into the world of robots and to understand how to apply programming towards the functioning of robots. She also does things outside of Robotics such as Crew, Science Olympiads, Olympic Visual Arts, Classical Dance, and Math fair. She hopes to develop a great robot while creating friendships with new people.
Builder
Anthony is a sophomore in Syosset High School. He has a dog named Sandy. He loves video games and building Legos He is a straight A student since 6th grade. His favorite subjects include biology, technology and geography. He is a happy kid who’s ready for any challenge thrown in his way. He is a determined, hard worker, in and out of school. He is empathetic towards others and always willing to help another student. Whenever there is an issue with Mindstorms, he is the guy you call.
Head of Business
Anushka G is a sophomore student who attends Syosset High School and is part of the Syosset ELITE team. She’s interested in science and engineering. Besides Robotics, Anushka participates in Forensics, fencing, and golf. Anushka is part of the build team for Syosset robotics and this is her second year being a part of it. She enjoys looking at different kinds of designs and systems, she’s also interested in the programming of the robot or programming in general as she knows C#, Swift, and is learning Python. She values the learning aspect of Robotics that most. Along with that Gracious Professionalism has not only affected her in Robotics but in other activities too, such as Forensics.
Head of Building
Catherine is a sophomore at Syosset High School and a builder for Syosset Elite. She has put a lot of work into her team's chassis and subsystem, even leading a subgroup when the team decided to divide and conquer. Catherine is always open to new ideas and ready to help others in need. She loves to create and has always been interested in the arts. She believes that she can help her team reach many of their goals and is proud to work alongside them.
Builder
Eddie is a sophomore in Syosset High School. He helps out in everything for the team of Syosset ELITE. His interests include science and mathematics. For the team, he is mainly for entertainment purposes but also he helps in building. He joined robotics to get an opportunity to learn more about programming, building, and robotics in general. He hopes to be a very helpful member of the team while creating friendships with more people and friends so new. If you ever need to be cheered up or in need of a joke, Eddie had your back.
Francesca is a sophomorein Syosset High School and has committed herself to the robotics club because of her curiosity for robots, machines, and understanding how these systems work. When she grows up, she desires to work somewhere in the science field, and although not certain, it is sure to involve robotics. Outside of the robotics team, she is an avid reader, loves listening to music, and enjoy quality time with friends and family.
Hudson is a sophomore in Syosset High School. He is a builder who likes to work on the robot subsystems and the base of the robot. He also enjoys learning new things about robotics. Hudson likes to tell people all about robotics so they can learn about new robots. He awaits the FTC competition and can’t wait to experience a new challenge. He hopes to come away from this experience with new knowledge and new skills.
Builder
Jared is a sophomore in Syosset High School. He is a builder in Syosset ELITE. He is interested in mathematics, computer science, and engineering. He also plays tennis out of school, and plays the trumpet in a jazz bands in school. This is Jared's 1st year in being involved in Syosset Robotics. Jared hopes that over the course of his robotics career, he will be a person that shows the qualities of Gracious Professionalism. He believes that if everybody in the team works together and cooperates, they will be very successful in competition.
Head of Physics
Ketan is a sophomore who is a CAD Designer and Logbooker on Syosset ELITE. He is interested in creating 3D virtual models and designs on paper in order to make it easier for the team. He also does Science Olympiads, and used to do Cross-Country (but left in order to focus more time on Robotics). This is his first year in Robotics he is a log booker and CAD designer who has designed the 3D models of our robot. He enjoys using different CAD programs to see what he can create and how detailed it can be. He believes that this team will be able to make it to, and win, nationals in their high school robotics career.
Head of Building
Krishiv is a sophomore in syosset high school. He is a builder, programmer, and apart of outreach, and part of the physics section of the logbook. He also is apart of the syosset debate program, though he enjoys robotics more. Outside of school he is interested in mathematics, and tennis, as well as runs a small business in web development. He joined the team because of his love for stem robotics. He also joined the team in efforts to make new friends and family.
Engineering Notebook
Mayu is a sophomore at Syosset High School. She helps out on the Logbook team and likes to document what goes on the team. She is interested in math and science, and she also likes to read and ski in her free time. She joined the team to learn more about robotics and programming, and meet and make friends with new people on the team.
Head of Programming
Yashwant is a sophomore attending Syosset High School. He is 15 years old and is often referred to as Yash. He loves playing basketball and taking long runs alone in the afternoon. He also enjoys researching shoes and learning about PCs and computers. He lives with his older brother and sisters who help him improve as much as possible. He wants to become an anesthesiologist and use his knowledge on computer science to help him succeed in his career. For the team, Yash is always working on the robot, leading the team, and he puts a lot of his time into piecing the Programming section together during the season.
Syosset ELITE Director
Mr. John Chae is a Mathematics teacher at Syosset High School. He started his teaching career in 2002 and has taught most of high school math courses and also developed new courses in Robotics and Drones. Governor Andrew M. Cuomo, after a rigorous application process, approved him as a Master Teacher by inviting him to part in the New York State Master Teacher Program.
He completed his BA and MA from CUNY Queens College in Mathematics and Sec. Education. He was part of a full scholarship program called TIME 2000. He is currently pursuing a doctorate degree from Teachers College at Columbia University.
Syosset ELITE Engineering Mentor and Retired AKF Mechanical Engineer & Partner
Mr. Sammut has had a distinguished career as an HVAC (Cooling and Heating) engineer and Partner at AKF. He is a Woodrow Wilson Fellow, a Ford Fund Scholar, and the 2008 recipient of the American Consulting Engineer Council National Engineering award for the Rockefeller University Hudspeth Ear Cell Laboratory.
Mr. Sammut’s specialty is design-oriented troubleshooting. He has been a key collaborator with ELITE in quantifying the design of Robotics.
