Farming Around the World
Comparing Subsistence and Commercial Agriculture
Students independently research one example each of subsistence farming and commercial farming using the internet. They analyse the geographical, environmental, and socio-economic factors that explain why each type of farming is practiced in its specific location. Based on their findings, students design an informative poster that compares and contrasts subsistence and commercial farming in terms of purpose, scale, inputs, outputs, and impacts. Posters are displayed around the classroom, followed by a gallery walk during which students review and reflect on the work of their peers.

Entrepreneurship and Business Acumen
IGCSE and DP Business and Economics students participated in a dynamic entrepreneurship competition where innovative young minds got the opportunity to pitch their business ideas to a panel of Sharks (investors) fostering entrepreneurial spirit. The pitch included explaining the problem, their solution, its benefits, and why it's a viable business. Through this activity they learned fundamental business concepts, including market research, financial planning, and marketing strategies. Shark Tank project ideas also emphasized eco- friendly solutions and sustainable practices. Students developed public speaking, persuasion, and critical thinking skills as they articulated their ideas and responded to questions from the Sharks.

A house-wise quiz competition was conducted to celebrate National Mathematics Day. Students from all houses participated enthusiastically, showcasing their logical reasoning and mathematical knowledge. Exploring the Spanish-Speaking World
IG2 Students Showcase Research and Presentation Skills
During the holidays, IG2 Spanish students undertook an independent research project on an assigned Spanish-speaking country. They explored key aspects such as the country’s political system, geography, history, and cultural traditions.
The students presented their findings through well-structured PowerPoint presentations, demonstrating effective use of technology and clear communication skills. This enriching activity helped develop research abilities, critical thinking, creativity, and confidence in public speaking.
Channeling The ID, Ego And Superego
Understanding the underlying motivations of behaviour
The role-play activity helps students understand the psychodynamic theory’s id, ego, and superego by acting out their contrasting behaviors in real-life situations. Three groups prepare skits based on scenarios like someone pushing in a queue, a friend forgetting a lunch, and feeling hungry during a study session. Each group demonstrates how the id acts on impulse, the superego follows moral standards, and the ego tries to balance both. After performances, the class guesses which character is which, reinforcing their understanding. This hands-on approach makes abstract personality concepts clear and memorable for students.

IGCSE Language Activity: Celebrating Spontaneity & Multilingual Skills
From Preliminary Rounds to the Grand Finals
The IGCSE Language Activity showcased the talents of students from all four houses-Agni, Bhoomi, Jal, and Vayu ,through engaging Preliminary and Final Rounds. The Preliminary Competition included the English Extempore along with PowerPoint Presentations in French, Spanish, and Hindi, allowing students to demonstrate quick thinking, creativity, and language proficiency. This was followed by the Final Round, where selected participants presented with greater depth and confidence across all four languages. The event concluded with house-wise results, celebrating the collective effort, skill, and multilingual expression of all participants.

IAYP Adventure Journey to Karjat
A memorable expedition of trekking, outdoor skills, and village exploration.
The IAYP Adventure Journey to Karjat began with students trekking up Rajmachi Fort with great enthusiasm. Though fatigue set in, a wholesome traditional meal recharged them for the descent. At the campsite, students practiced tent pitching, learning teamwork and essential outdoor skills. The next day, they explored village life, including agro-farming and local occupations, before ending the trip with a bumpy bullock-cart ride and serene riverside moments—a truly unforgettable adventure.

Mud, Mystery & Science: IG1 Students Dig In!
Exploring Soil, pH, and Plant Growth Through Hands-On Science.
IG1 EM students explored soil composition through a hands-on activity around their school. They collected samples, identified clay, silt, sand, and loam, and learned how soil types affect plant growth and the ecosystem. In the ESS lab, they measured soil pH, discovering how it impacts soil health and plant development. The activity connected classroom learning with real-world science, making it both fun and meaningful.

IGCSE 1 IAYP Practice Trek to Sinhagad Fort
Twenty-six students showcase determination as they complete a challenging climb and prepare for their Adventure Journey.
IGCSE 1 IAYP students climbed the historic Sinhagad Fort with determination and teamwork. Despite the heat, they encouraged one another and reached the summit, where they heard inspiring stories of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Their spirited chants echoed across the fort. The challenging descent only strengthened their confidence and prepared them for the upcoming Adventure Journey.

Rock Detectives: Cracking the Code of Permeability
IG1 EM students conducted an engaging activity on testing the permeability of rocks.
The IG1 Environmental Management students became “rock detectives” as they explored the permeability of different rocks. After collecting samples from the school garden, they predicted and tested how easily water could pass through each one. This hands-on experiment helped students connect classroom learning with real-world applications in a fun and interactive way.

IGCSE–2 Assembly Celebrates Navaratri with Devotion and Energy
Honouring Culture and Environment through Performance and Expression.
The IGCSE–2 students brought the school atrium to life with a vibrant assembly on Navaratri. The event featured soulful prayers, an energetic Shubharambh dance, a heartfelt poem, and a powerful Mahishasur Mardini act. Anchored gracefully by Anushka Agarwal and Anaisha Sood, the assembly also highlighted World Environmental Health Day, reminding all of the need to protect our environment. It was a beautiful blend of cultural celebration and social awareness.

Chances and Choices in Action
Turning Probability into Playful, Powerful Learning Experience.
IGCSE 2 students were introduced to probability through an interactive session filled with dice rolls and coin tosses. Predicting outcomes made them realize how chances change with one die, a coin, and finally two dice with 36 possibilities. The lively, game-based approach turned mathematics into an engaging and memorable experience.

A group of four students from IG2-Anagha Raghavan, Saiena Kudale, Vivaan Pingale,Shaurya Pathania, engaged in an interactive and engaging Interview session with the Director-Mrs Shalini Singh Hamilton on 17th September 2025.The aim of the interview was to understand her vision for the school and also put into practice the skills learnt in the FLE class on Interview Writing. In celebration of Hindi Day 2025, Symbiosis International School hosted a vibrant essay writing competition for IGCSE 2 Hindi students. This event allowed students to explore their creativity and express their thoughts fluently in Hindi. Not only did the competition help enhance their writing skills, but it also fostered confidence and a deeper connection to the language. The event was a true reflection of the power of language to inspire, educate, and unite.

IG1 Students Led Energy Conservation Awareness at School
IG1 Environmental Science students hosted a brief but impactful session on energy conservation. They compared electricity usage of common appliances—highlighting that a 1.5-ton air conditioner uses 2 units per hour, while four ceiling fans use just 1 unit.
With temperatures around 27°C on rainy days, students encouraged turning off unnecessary cooling devices, saving up to 3 units of electricity each hour.
The session concluded with an open invitation to join the Symvironmental Club, championing sustainability across the campus.

Introducing the 2027 English-Medium 'College of Design' Program
SIS welcomed Ms. Shioyama Satsuki from the University of Tokyo for an informative session with our Grade 9 and 10 students.
She introduced the upcoming College of Design, an innovative English-medium undergraduate program launching in 2027, focused on solving global issues through design and interdisciplinary thinking.
The session also covered key information about studying in Japan, including application timelines, university options, and scholarship opportunities for international students.

The IGCSE Cohort 2023–25 has once again demonstrated outstanding excellence in the June 2025 examinations. Out of 320 entries, over 200 were awarded grades A* and A, reflecting the perseverance and determination of our learners. Several ICE students achieved the remarkable milestone of securing 8A*s, setting a benchmark of academic brilliance.

The Science Department of Symbiosis International School proudly hosted the Science Exhibition 2025, showcasing the creativity and scientific temper of our IG2 students. We were honored to have Mr. Sandeep Jaisinghani, an Innovation Engineer by passion and Managing Director at EcoAir Cooling Systems Pvt. Ltd., as our Chief Guest. He interacted enthusiastically with the young innovators, appreciated their work, and offered valuable insights on developing a long-term vision in scientific pursuits. His motivational address encouraged students to nurture curiosity and adopt lifelong learning, emphasizing the importance of sustainable and forward-thinking innovations.
The exhibition was a celebration of inquiry, creativity, and collaboration—hallmarks of the scientific spirit we strive to instill in our students.

Happening this Month
The ‘ IGCSE Business Studies’ activities are designed to get students involved, to challenge them to think, and to support them in making exceptional progress. Here is one such activity that was recently conducted by the IG 1 & 2 Business studies students presented through a poster walkthrough on the basic building blocks of business studies, classification of the sectors of business and their interconnectedness and Technology in Business. The students were encourages and appreciated by their teachers & IGCSE coordinator, Mrs. Anuradha Chaturvedi for their knowledge, hard work and dedication.

France and Francophonie day is celebrated internationally on 20th March, and so the French department decided to commemorate the same at Symbiosis International School too.
It began with the PYP welcome song and poetry recitation. The MYP organised a very interesting and not-so-easy quiz for IGCSE students, followed by a role play by DP students. It encompassed many great French personalities the world has known and respected. The grand finale was a rocking performance on the French football mantra "Allez le bleu! Allez" which the entire room was singing along with the DP band.
From music to cuisine, from history to current affairs.. we tried to cover everything "French".

49 Students from IGCSE I came together to present a brilliant play by germn playwright, Bertolt Brecht, The Caucasian Chalk Circle. A play that talks about war torn Europe and its journey to heal, while drawing parallel with the famous story of King Solomon and the chalk circle, it was appreciated by the parents and peers of Symbiosis.
The play was an IGCSE production with contribution from all teachers and students.
The IGCSE English Department successfully conducted a Debate Competition on 25th September 2023 at SIS.
Debates are a cornerstone of our democratic society, which is essential as it provides a platform for the exchange of ideas and opinions towards topics that are relevant to current times.
23 students from IG-2 debated on 2 topics. These topics were chosen out of 11 possible topics relating to human gene editing, national media, crypto currency and many more interesting and relative ones. These two topics were- “Are women managers better than men?” and “Can AI replace human intelligence?”
The competition was judged by a panel of teachers from IG & DP.
Interesting perspectives coupled with intensive research made the speeches a delight to listen to. The rebuttal round was animated and well refuted by the teams.
The students were prepared and mentored by their FLE facilitator- Ms. Pooja Dhawan. The competition was conducted under the guidance of the IGCSE Coordinator- Dr. Anuradha Chaturvedi.
The Principal, Dr. Madan Mohan felicitated the winners & participants. Certificates & book vouchers were distributed. He spoke to them on the importance of public speaking and being vocal about their ideologies. His interaction with the IG2 students was instrumental in setting the foundation for a School Debate Team.
IGCSE 1 and 2 went to Kundalika for their field mid December and enjoyed it thoroughly. This was the first actual interaction the 2 classes had between them and helped the ice break. They worked in teams of 6 to 8, each one containing a fair amount of physical and intelligence prowess. It was interesting to watch how each team had their own ebbs and lows depending upon the demands of the activity. From adventure sports to cooking to entertainment.. they did it all with everything they had! The evening camp fire was very successful as they all danced with much enthusiasm and gusto. It was heartening to see the children let go of their inhibitions and prejudices and laugh and cry and share their life stories through the night, in their tents.
It was indeed a triumphant event as the students came back together as IGCSE and not divided into IG 1 and 2.
Students from PYP to IGCSE commemorated the "World Theatre Day" on 21st March 2024. Performances ranging from monologues to group performances mesmerized the audience. The IGCSE performance was based on a popular European genre, Commedia Dell'Arte, a genre of performance that uses stock characters and half masks.
The play was devised, directed and performed by IGCSE 2(grade 10) students, based on mafia world. A story which talks of a tyrannical Mafia boss, Magnifico, her oppression of servants and a hilarious rebellion that leads to a leader being overthrown by the most ridiculous means. It was an engaging performance that was appreciated by each and every member of the audience.
The hindi department commemorated the Hindi Diwas on 14th September 2024 with a plethora of performances and cultural events. Hindi Diwas celebrations serve as a platform to reaffirm the pride and importance of Hindi language in the cultural mosaic of India and encourage its usage and propagation among the masses. Cultural events featuring Hindi songs, dances, and dramas were organized to promote the richness and diversity of Hindi literature and performing arts.
IAYP bronze had 2 parts - Practice trek in October where the participants trekked up the Sinhagad fort and the Adventure journey in January '24 where we climbed up to Matheran from Ketavane Village, a steep adventurous climb indeed! It was a thrilling experience for all of us. In Matheran, we walked to the local points through a rocky terrain, saw the toy train that passed us several times, ate fresh farm food and learnt about the horses and monkeys which are typical of Matheran. Of course, pitching and living in tents made this journey a wholesome experience, an ideal combination of expedition and exploration. The distance between Ketavane village and Matheran is approximately 11.6 kilometers. Ketavane village, located in the Ghats, is a beautiful village surrounded by lush green hills and waterfalls. Matheran, on the other hand, is a hill station in the western Ghats with famous tourist spots such as Echo Point, Heart Point, and Lion's Point. The Trek was of approximately 8 kms from the starting point till the Alexandra camp in Matheran.
On February 28th, our school celebrated Science Day, Students participated in exciting science experiments and interactive workshops, fostering a deep interest in scientific exploration. Esteemed guest speaker our Very own principal Mr. Madan Mohan shared his insights, inspiring young minds. The event also featured a science fair, where students showcased their innovative science gaming skills. Overall, it was a day filled with learning, discovery, and enthusiasm for science.
