¡Bienvenidos y bienvenidas!
Dear Student,
This syllabus is a summary of the course requirements you need to be successful in this course. It will help you plan for this class, which is especially important if your time is limited.
This syllabus is long but it contains useful information; pace yourself, read it in sections, come back to it, consult it during the semester. Above all, know that it is meant to ensure your success in this class.
I am looking forward to a great semester.

This is a 16-week semester course. It runs January 21, through May 23.
This is an online course with no mandatory meetings. Conventional lecture or grammar tutorials will not be offered, as all coursework is completed independently both in Canvas and Vistas Supersite.
This is a vocabulary-heavy, grammar-intensive course. We also offer more accessible conversational Spanish courses.
SPN 200 is a 4-unit course. Please allow 12 hours per week (3 hrs. per unit) to complete all weekly activities.
All coursework is completed independently both in Canvas and Vistas Supersite.
La persistencia de la memoria (1931), Salvador Dalí
The purchase of an access code is required for Supersite: $79.00-$118.80.
Access code information is available below.
Most homework assignments are due on Sundays by 23:59; discussions will be due on Thursdays by 23:59.
Because this is an online course, basic computer skills are expected.
Good connectivity is essential for this class format. Wifi is available on campus.
Dual-enrollment (high school) students: This is a college course, you will need to work at college level and adjust your semester calendar to Mendocino College's.
If you have a high school-issued laptop, you will be responsible for finding ways to access the Internet independently, as we will complete many activities using various websites.

Learning Center Tutoring appointments
Free tutoring can be accessed using the Navigation Menu in Canvas>Learning Center Tutoring.
We will use an electronic platform called Vistas, 7th edition, published by Vista Higher Learning (VHL).
Use this link to purchase your access code through the publisher's online store. The Mendocino College bookstore sells it for a higher price.
There are two options to choose from. Select the best option to match your needs:
An all-digital bundle (including a digital textbook). $79.00
Same as choice 1 + print copy of the textbook. $118.80
Please do not purchase your access code/textbook through Amazon or "à la carte."
Used copies and older editions don't include a valid access code.
Again, the Mendocino College bookstore sells it for a higher price.
The publisher offers a discounted price for MC students using the link only. À la carte prices are higher.
