Canvas will display your real grade. The grades calculated in Vistas Supersite (VHL) are only partial. I will transfer manually all your Supersite totals to Canvas when we finish each chapter.
I don't round up final grades. For example, 79.99% is a C.
A = 90-100%
B = 80-89.99%
C = 70-79.99%
D = 60-69.99%
F = 0-59.99%
A: Excellent = 4 points
B: Good = 3 points
C: Satisfactory = 2 points
D: Passing = 1 points
F: Failing = 0 points
I will do my best to preserve the Syllabus intact, but I reserve the right to make any modifications deemed necessary. You will be notified in a timely manner if any changes occur.
Because this is a skill-building course, extra-credit is not offered.
Your final grade will be determined from the following grade components:
Weekly Supersite homework: 40%
Weekly oral activities: 10%
Weekly Written Discussions: 10% – We will drop the lowest 3 grades in this category.
Weekly Oral Discussions: 10% – We will drop the lowest 3 grades in this category.
Five chapter exams: 10% – We will have 6 exams in total, but only 5 will count.
Final composition: 10%
Final oral exam: 10%
TOTAL: 100%
Class work has been designed to help you further your understanding of the material and advance your language acquisition process. Students are expected to complete the majority of the work assigned. However, sometimes life happens and events prevent us from crossing out all our agenda items. For this reason, we can afford some flexibility. For our major assignments:
Missed chapter exams cannot be made up, but you will be able to drop the lowest grade in this category.
Because of their social nature, discussions (written and oral) cannot be replaced; however, you will be able to drop the three lowest grades from each of these categories.
Because these are time-sensitive, missed compositions and the oral exam can be made up for partial credit only.
The semester goes fast! I encourage you to complete your weekly assignments on time to avoid getting behind. Late Supersite and oral activities will be accepted for partial credit (-5% per day). Late Chapter Exams will be accepted for partial credit (-10% per day). Compositions and the oral exam will get a deduction of 10% per day late.
If you are experiencing an unplanned delay due to unforeseen, critical circumstances, we may agree on an extension without penalty. Please make sure to contact me as soon as you are able. Extensions need to be mutually agreed upon.
Please keep in mind that assignments open one week ahead of their deadline in Supersite and Modules. Sunday night wifi/power outages are not considered emergencies.
