SUPERSTEM (3rd - 5th)

3rd - 5th graders will enjoy this monthly Scholastic magazine filled with current, non-fiction articles that bring science and math concepts to life and motivate students to think like scientists and engineers. Students complete monthly worksheets to earn points.

If your child is a GATE-identified student, they will automatically receive copies of SuperSTEM. All other 3rd - 5th graders can still partake in SuperSTEM for a small subscription fee (<$8 for the year).

Students earn 1 SLAM point for each issue completed (6 issues per year).

SCIENCE BUILDERS CHALLENGE (3rd - 5th)

An exciting event for those budding scientists and engineers who like to build! Each year is a different building challenge, from a Rube Goldberg inspired Goldberg's Garage, to building a trebuchet in Storm the Castle, to building a battery powered vehicle in Battery Buggy.

Students who participate will earn 3 SLAM points.

The Spring 2024 Project is a trebuchet (catapult)!

SCIENCE FAIR (1st - 5th)

Open to all 1st - 5th graders, students will answer scientific questions using The Scientific Method and present their experiment and findings in a tri-fold poster board presentation at a Science Fair held in the Spring. Prizes will be awarded!

Students who participate will earn 2 SLAM points.

SCIENCE OLYMPIAD (1st - 5th)

*1 VOLUNTEER NEEDED or 1 COACH PER TEAM*

Science Olympiad is designed to explore the scientific field of education and provide recognition for outstanding achievement in team events. It combines knowledge based science and hands-on science in a competition format. Students work in teams of 6 to compete in events surrounding scientific processes, knowledge and application. Competition will take place during a weekend in mid-late March.

Students who participate will earn 3 SLAM points.

ODYSSEY OF THE MIND (1st - 5th)

Odyssey of the Mind teaches students how to develop and use their natural creativity to become problem-solvers. The competition consists of two parts: a long-term problem and a spontaneous problem.  Students work in teams to develop the long-term problem and skills for the spontaneous problem over the span of several months.  Students must advance first at the district level and then at regional/state level to be able to ultimately compete at World Finals.  Each team can have a max of 7 students and each team must have at least one coach.

Students who participate will earn 3 SLAM points.
