BATTLE OF THE BOOKS (3rd - 5th)
3rd - 5th graders will enjoy this fun reading incentive program. The titles are recommended by the national America's Battle of the Books committee, and then specifically selected for Sycamore Valley. Our Battle of the Books event will be held in the Spring. The battle is an after school tournament of trivia in which student teams earn points by answer questions about the books from the reading list. To participate in our spring event, a minimum of 9 books must be completed.
Students that participate in Battle of the Books will earn 3 SLAM points.

WORDMASTERS CHALLENGE (3rd - 5th)
Open to 3rd - 5th graders, the WordMasters Challenge is a vocabulary competition based on completing analogies. Participating students improve their vocabulary skills, develop verbal reasoning and boost their reading comprehension.
Participating students are given a list of challenging vocabulary words to study and prepare for each meet. There will be 3 WordMaster Challenges held during the school year in Nov, Feb, and April.
Students who participate in all 3 meets will earn 3 SLAM points.
