Shacktown Falls is one of the lesser-known swimming holes in the area.
Shacktown Falls is a part of Shore-Styers Mill Park. This is the site of a commercial grist mill, circa 1895. Park signage provides information about the time when Styers Mill was located here. There are some ruins and a couple of grinding stones from the old mill.
Shacktown Falls is about 25 miles northwest of Winston-Salem on Highway 521. Take Exit 253 and turn right on Old Stage Road. At the intersection, turn left on Shacktown Road and then right on Styers Mill Road. In about a half mile, Shore-Styers Mill Park will be on the left. The falls are down a short path.
I've visited here many times to play in the water with my dogs.
