In this unit, students investigate strategies to use when solving addition and subtraction problems with sums to 10. This is a chance for students to develop an understanding of the meanings for addition and subtraction, to develop strategies that can be used to solve addition and subtraction facts with sums to 10, and to further develop their understanding of composing and decomposing numbers. Students also learn about the equal sign and the concept of equality.
Students will learn about characters and how they develop and change throughout a story. By using the story’s pictures and words, students develop ideas about characters before, during, and after reading. Readers connect emotionally with characters by being exposed to their adventures, problems, feelings, and experiences and build empathy and new understandings.
In this unit, students share the stories of their lives by writing personal narratives. They gather writing ideas by reflecting on their daily personal experiences. Young children love to share experiences in their lives. This Personal Narrative unit gives students an opportunity to share these stories and grow as writers

We are learning about different skills scientists use to study the world! Students will spend time learning how to observe and classify objects during science. We will encourage students to go on nature walks with their families to help them study birds and plants.
