I am an insect aquatic ecologist and palaeobiologist and taxonomist, focusing on aquatic insects as model organisms. 

During my career, I have worked on the continental aquatic systems, ranging from lakes and rivers to  the hyporheic zone (river subsurface), ground waters, caves and marshes. My work is focused on understanding of the recovery of aquatic ecosystems and subsequent degradation of the same systems, caused by the global climate change intensifying impacts in the early twenty-first century. I study the vulnerability of the aquatic systems and establishing pre-anthropogenic and preanthropogenic baseline using palaeobiological data. I also study emergent stressors impacts on the aquatic communities.
