Dr. Caroline Chimeno

Caroline was a  doctoral candidate working at the Bavarian State Collection of Zoology in Munich and Baranov's lab (EBD, Sevilla) as well as a  coordinator of the GBOL III: Dark Taxa. She has succesfully defended her PhD thesis titled "Hidden in Plain Sight: Addressing the hidden diversity of German dark taxa using innovative technologies" on 19th of February 2024.

Her work as a doctoral student was focused on integrative taxonomy and biomonitoring of hyperdiverse group of Chironomidae (non-biting midges). In the previous GBOL II project, her research were focused on the application of DNA barcoding in the field of forensic entomology. Together with Viktor, Caroline was researching more efficient ways to monitor diversity of the extremely diverse and abundant flies, such as Chironomids.
