SVM Outreach Uganda - Kabindula
The centre is located near Ntwetwe Town which is about 150Km from Kampala the capital. The majority of the people in the area depend on farming and looking after animals for their income.
Initially there were no building structures, it was just simply going out in the community, sharing faith and encouraging the local people with the gospel of Jesus Christ. The area was well known for witchcraft and poverty. Many had very deep concerns and sad stories and they were encouraged to meet, so that they could pray together together and hear the good news of God's love. Eventually a structure was erected but this was difficult because there were no roads in the vicinity for the trucks to bring building materials at the first site. They could only stop at the bottom of the hill and all the material had to be carried to the construction site. But when people work together they can accomplish great things. The founders were also determined in their purpose and through all the hardship managed to put up a structure.
The centre is made up of a cluster of buildings that surround a larger building that serves as the main church auditorium. The outlying buildings are used as classrooms and some of these are demarcated to accommodate more than one class at a time.
A boarding facility for girls and boys is at either end of the main hall and this provides accommodation for young orphaned children that cannot go back home because their siblings cannot take care of them or for those that live very far away from the school. Living here means they don't have to walk very long distances every single day and strive to get a meal, which in turn ensures that they have their classes daily.
There is also a accommodation for a caretaker who helps to take care of the site. A little room serves a kitchen where a volunteer helps to cook and feed the children once during the day.
These are the children in one of the classrooms. They did not have many desks to use and so had to share and squeeze but at least they were not sitting home missing out on a an education.
Recently more desks have been built so that there is more room for the students and as the class sizes get bigger, the students can sit comfortably. Normally the wood to build the desks is brought unto the site and a carpenter is then contracted to make the desks on site.
Meal time is very popular and the queues can be long. Here the children line up for their morning refreshment break before carrying on with some more lessons.
Sanitation ins very important to us at SVM Outreach so this is the ventilated pit latrine that is used. There was a need to build a another toilet facility to accommodate the growing numbers and also have a separate toilets for the girls and the boys.
Its always exciting when the children get visitors. The centre is run by donations from friends and partners. Here Esther, the founder was posing for a picture with some of the children and staff.
Showing off some of the toys they received from donations in UK. For some of these children, this is the first time in their life to hold a toy.
Esther and some friends from the UK were visiting the centre for the holiday bible club that was started in 2016 and was scheduled to run every summer. Many people came for this event and the atmosphere was buzzing. It was good to see the children interact and meet so many new people and learn about God in fun and educative ways.
Sometimes we organise outdoor meetings, to share the gospel with the community. For these events, we work with friends from different places. Left is one of the outdoor meetings held in the town centre and right are some university students that came to help and run the event. These events spread the news about love and help to forge relationships that inspire the children.
Achievements
Can you imagine how excited the children were when they discovered the play ground was home to a play swing. It has become a very popular stop and certainly makes school breaks very interesting. They could really do with a few more of these but this is a fun start!
Some of the children proudly showing off some of the artistic work they created. They created posters to say thank you and say a love message to all that have sponsored SVM Outreach.
New class blocks that have been added to the centre.
