QUALIFYING TOURNAMENT

-TOURNAMENT RULES and GUIDELINES:

1) All teams will play three or four games each consisting of TWO 16-minute stop-time halves. Any overtime periods will be three minutes long.

2) All teams should bring their own warmup balls. Teams will mutually agree to use one of their warmup balls during the game. Pregame warmups will last a minimum FIVE minutes and the halftime break will be FIVE minutes.

3) The first listed team in the draw is the home team and should wear the light-colored uniforms, unless one team does not have home and away color uniforms. Teams may make arrangements among themselves to change this guideline. Teams MUST bring both uniform tops to all games if they have them.

4) All referees are allocated through the Victoria Basketball Officials Association. The tournament organizers do not play any role in the allocation of officials for the games.

5) All players will be allowed SIX PERSONAL FOULS before they are disqualified. All other

FIBA rules will still apply. Teams will shoot bonus on the 10 th foul of each half rather than the 5 th foul of each quarter.

6) There are not any restrictions on the use of zone presses or zone defences in any division.

7) Team coaches are responsible for the conduct and supervision of their players and fans/parents. Unacceptable behaviour may result in the culprit being banned from the gym for the remainder of the tournament.

8) We will NOT being using 24-second shot clocks. However, teams which deliberately stall will be given a warning and forced to play on the first offence. We will be using an 8-second backcourt count and an over-and- back centre line. If teams hold possession beyond what would be 24 seconds, the referees will stop the game, put a 10-second count on a team and force it to play as the rules are intended.

9) All decisions made by the tournament director or gym supervisor ARE FINAL!!

1st Annual National Club Championship Qualifying Tournament for the Vancouver Island Zone

WHEN: Saturday, May 20, and Sunday, May 21, 2017

WHERE: This year the tournament will again be held on the two full-sized courts at the University of Victoria CARSA High-Performance Gym. Our second gym facility is the Spectrum Secondary School Old and New Gyms (957 Burnside Road West).

All funds generated by this tournament will support of the University of Victoria Women’s Basketball Program’s student athletes through scholarship and other supporting network funding.

DIVISIONS: U13– for school teams or club teams with players in grade 7 or younger

U15 – for high-school teams or club teams with players in grade 9 or younger

U17– for high-school teams and club teams with players in grade 11 or younger

The winning team in each division receives an invitation to play in the first annual National Club Championship Tournament set for August 4-7, 2017, at the Langley Events Centre in Langley, B. C. The first-place and the second-place teams in each division will each receive a set of 12 tournament t-shirts after the final game.

The tournament format will be determined based upon the number of teams registered to play in each division (U13, U15 and U17).

COST: $400 entry fee for all teams – all teams are guaranteed to play FOUR GAMES

OFFICIALS AND RULES: officials will be provided through the Victoria Basketball Officials Association – games will be two 16-minute stop-time halves; we will use 24-second shot clocks whenever possible

OTHER DETAILS: With the current gym facilities, we have room for up to 24 teams to play in this tournament. Entry in the tournament will be confirmed on a first-come / first-registered basis. This tournament serves as a qualifying tournament for the first annual National Club Championship Tournament set for August 4-7, 2017, at the Langley Events Centre in Langley. B. C. We hope you will want to visit our city at a great time of the year for tourists and play some top-flight basketball while you are here.

A concession will be available in the main gym during the tournament and there will be an admission charge each day of $5 for adults and $2 for students with children under 10 years old admitted free.

The earlier teams arrive in Victoria ready to play, the easier it is to schedule teams to play their four games against a variety of opponents. The later your arrival time, the more difficult scheduling becomes.

Host hotels have been arranged with excellent rates for teams attending our tournaments.

We expect all teams to stay at one of the listed host hotels.
