Climate Action PROJECT 2020

"CLIMATE ACTION PROJECT, leaded by KOEN TIMMERS and JENNIFER WILLIAMS aims to change students' behavior and societies' mindset concerning climate change and environmental threats through education.

The Climate Action project is launched in October 2020 or the fourth consecutive time involving 1 to 10 million students across 107 countries. It is supported by governments in 15 countries. The project is free, student-centered and aims to lead to a change of behavior through education. It is in collaboration with WWF and NASA, and endorsed by Jane Goodall, President Higgins, Kumi Naidoo, scientists and public figures. It was covered by media across 45 countries including BBC, CNN and National Geographic.

What to expect?

During 6 weeks, students will brainstorm, explore, create, discuss and share their findings online. They will try to solve problems and take action.

Each week they create a video of their findings to be published to this website. This way students are able to learn from their peers globally and will discover that climate change may appear very differently in other parts of the world. During the last week there will be live, virtual interactions via video conferencing tools, so students are able to share their findings live. We also will have hosting experts during webinars so students are able to learn from world-renowned experts.

The SDGs Action! Erasmus+ team agreed to join this project as it perfectly fits with our project goals: integrate SDGs into our school curricula and participate in international campaign. So we will spread the message to our communities and all over the world."

Students will experience collaborative learning, learning by doing, they will increase their creativity, empathy and they will also improve their critical thinking. by joining this project, they will become one more time, real problem solvers!

Week 1: exploration, causes OF THE CLIMATE CHANGE

Greenhouse gases

Causes of the Climate Change

Farming, chemicals, gases, sprays, deforestation ...

Plastic

The use of plastic products

Causes of Climate Change

Deforestation, Greenhouse effect, Intensive farming, industrialization

Gases

  • What is climate change - what would be your definition?

  • What is causing climate change locally?

Upload our students' work in a video :

FRANCE

In France, we learnt the difference between weather and climate. Then we learnt what are the causes of Climate change. We made two posters.

We also made an experiment to prove that CO2 causes an increase of temperature.

CATALONIA

In Catalonia we watched some videos about The climate Change and then, we made an ACROSTIC all together.

After that, we prepared a video showing some of the causes of the Climate Change

Finland - In the Oulu University Teacher Training school grade 3a worked with the causes of climate change. We read a children`s book about climate change and watched a video about Paxi and the climate change. With the help of those materials pupils made a list about the causes. After that they worked in groups and each group made a poster about one of the causes. They prepared the presentations about their topic and by that way disseminated the basic information e.g. about micro particles and fossil fuel. Pupils also created art work by combining two photos of plants from their digital herbariums (made by Trello application) and their own self portrait. They used PixlE ( https://pixlr.com/fi/e/ ).During their English lessons pupils practised to use online dictionaries and translated the main words about their climate change topics in English.

On music lessons they created the soundscapes into their landscape paintings. As a conclusion -by combining all that- we created a video - a multimedia presentation about the Causes of Climate Change. You can watch it here:

The Causes of Climate Change: All we need is Nature

BULGARIA

Students of grade 1, 3 and 4 of SU Ekzarh Antim I, Kazanlak, Bulgaria presented their opinion about causes of climate change : The use of plastic products, The result of human activities, Petrol spill in the ocean.

We made poster, application and experiment

ITALY

Students have reflected on definitions of climate and wheatear and on the causes.
