Energy/ Resources (Santaros Gimnazija)

The meeting in Santaros gymnasium, Vilnius took place between the 7th and 13th of May, 2023. 

During this week both students and teacher participated in various activities which aimed at raising awareness about the use of energy and resources on the environment and explored ways of making energy consumption more sustainable. Visiting sights was also included in the program.

 

Here is the list of activities which concerned the topic of energy/resources and the environment.

Presentation "Energy and resources in your country"

This activity opened the week and was the result of a previous research that the students from the different schools had carried out before coming to the meeting. The objective was to  get to know some relevant information about energy and resources in the five students' countries, its impact on the population and room for improvement, having in mind issues such as : Resources of your country; Energy of your country; Transport; Alternative/green sources of energy.

Educational visit to the Lithuanian Parliament (Seimas).

 

Students and teachers were shown the working session of the members of the Parliament, visited the famous venues for parliamentary meetings, participated in the discussion on energy and resources with the member of the Parliament (Committee on Environmental protection, sustainability, energy).


WORKSHOPS and excursion at The Energy and Technology Museum

 

Energy and Technology Museum (Lithuanian: Energetikos ir technikos muziejus) is an institution dedicated to researching and presenting energy history, the industrial heritage of Lithuania, and the history of Vilnius. It is housed in a former Vilnius power plant. At 5,000 square meters, this museum is the largest museum of technology in Lithuania.

The museum also features interactive rooms that are mainly aimed at children and feature interactive exhibits which illustrate different aspects of science.

Students and teachers participated in interactive educational activities at the museum on different forms of energy.

A day trip to Visaginas nuclear power plant.

Project participants took the unusual opportunity to explore the Ignalina nuclear power plant on this unique tour from Vilnius. With a guide filling you in on the plant's history and operations, took a tour of the unfinished clone of the Chernobyl Power plant and the 40,000-person city built in the middle of nowhere, took part in an educational excursion to the Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant Control Room simulator.  The simulator is a full-size replica of the real plant's Control Room.
