PRODUCER: Choy Commons
COST: $799 Includes $19 admin fee. Cost breakdown is $36.31 per share each week.
ABOUT: Contains 6-9 types of vegetables, greens & herbs per share each week. Season runs 22 weeks from May 28 to October 29 (skip July 2). Each box can feed an average family of 2–4 for a week, depending on how much you cook.
This season, we are excited to be working with Choy Commons, a cooperative of three small Asian-led farms in the Hudson Valley. Choy Commons uses regenerative organic growing practices, and does not use any chemicals, pesticides, fungicides or other commercial sprays. The cost of organic certification is too high given the size of each farm, but they follow all organic practices and go beyond the USDA Organic certification standards. Given their closer location and smaller scale, we are happy to pass on a more affordable share price this year — down from $855 last year.
Expect familiar staple vegetables, greens and herbs like heirloom tomatoes, peppers, squash, kale, basil, cilantro, and root veggies, plus beautiful heritage Asian varieties that reflect the culinary diversity of Queens like pea shoots, mustard greens, bok choy, Chinese eggplant, and more!
All three farms directly support food sovereignty & climate justice work by partnering with local community-based mutual aid groups to bring their crops to underserved people — especially low-income seniors — in New York City and rural upstate New York.
Choy Commons offers their own Asian Vegetable Club CSA that is different from what our vegetable shares contain and at a different price point.
Choy Division Located at the Chester Agricultural Center in Orange County — a land trust for small farmers using organic management practices — Choy Division is a 4-acre diversified vegetable farm with a focus on East Asian heritage crops grown using regenerative agricultural techniques. Founded in 2019 with its first iteration as an urban farm in Astoria, Queens, Choy Division grew on the Black Dirt, one of the richest farmland regions in the US, and uses no inputs whatsoever — no compost, no amendments, no spray.
"Our farming decisions are made with soil biodiversity and ecosystem health as a primary factor, not just productivity and profit."
Gentle Time Gentle Time farms no-till on permanent beds in the Hudson Valley, on the ancestral homelands of the Mohican Nation and Haudenosaunee. They never use chemicals, pesticides, fungicides, or commercial sprays, and make their own compost on site from spent mushroom blocks and manure. Gentle Time is human-scale and committed to QTBIPOC farmer solidarity and long-term cooperative land stewardship.
"We follow all organic practices and go beyond the USDA Organic certification standards to grow even cleaner and more sustainably."
Star Route Farm Star Route Farm is located in Otsego County in the upper Catskill region of New York, on alluvial and glacial till deposits of the Charlotte Creek Valley. Their 6 acres of production fields are bisected by state and federally protected wetlands, home to bald eagles, herons, bitterns, and many other species. Star Route uses a permanent bed system transitioning to no-till, with soil organic matter between 8–9%. Fertility comes from green manure, cover crops, basalt volcanic rock dust, alfalfa meal, and vermicompost — no synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, or herbicides.

We are thrilled to partner with Nightingale Farm owned by Dan Heavens and located in Marlboro, NY. Nightingale Farm offers us a longer fruit season (3 extra weeks!) and uses Integrated Pest Management (Cornell guidelines) which is the same environmental standard as our previous fruit share from Champlain Orchards. Dan and his wife live on the orchard where they raise their children and eat the same fruit they grow for customers. In addition to the farm, they run Quartz Rock Vineyard & Cider House and make their own wine and cider.
Expect a diverse bounty of seasonal fruit in your share. The season kicks off with tender ripe strawberries followed by sour cherries, raspberries, blueberries, currants, peaches, apricots, plums, blackberries, and finishing the season with pears, apples and grapes.
In the spirit of food equity, Nightingale redistributes their fruit year-round in donations to local food pantries and community centers.

My name is Martha and I make empanadas from a recipe that has been passed down from generation to generation in my family and perfected through the years. We did a test run with the Sunnyside CSA last summer, and continued it into this winter - and since it was a success we would like to offer this special share to your CSA members.
My husband and I make each empanada from scratch using all fresh quality ingredients and freeze them so that you can enjoy them from the comfort of your home whenever you'd like. Additionally, the empanadas we make are Colombian Style with a corn shell which makes them gluten-free!
