Becoming a member of Sunnyside CSA means joining a small, volunteer-powered community committed to bringing fresh, local food to Sunnyside and the surrounding neighborhoods. When you sign up for a share, you're not just buying produce — you're helping sustain a community organization that's been running for years entirely on the energy of its members.
Membership is open to anyone, regardless of where you live. Many of our members are from Woodside, Astoria, and other nearby neighborhoods.
When you sign a CSA contract, you're agreeing to the following:
SHARED RISK. CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture — which means members share in both the rewards and the risks of the growing season. Harvests can vary due to weather and other factors outside anyone's control. There are no refunds.
VOLUNTEER SHIFTS. Every member is expected to contribute to the pickup operation each season:
Summer Share members must complete a minimum of 2 volunteer shifts
Winter Share members must complete a minimum of 1 volunteer shift
See our Volunteering page for shift details and to sign up. Failure to complete your shifts can result in removal from the CSA.
PICKUP RESPONSIBILITY. It's your responsibility to pick up your share during the distribution window — Thursdays from 5:00–8:00pm at Sunnyside Community Services, 43-31 39th Street, Sunnyside. If you can't make it, you may send someone in your place. Unclaimed shares are donated to Sunnyside Community Services at the end of the night and cannot be held or rescheduled.
NO REFUNDS. If you no longer want your share, you are responsible for finding someone to take it over. Try our Facebook page to find a taker, then email us at veggies@sunnysidecsa.com with the new owner's name, phone number, and email. The new owner takes on all remaining responsibilities, including volunteer shifts
All pickups take place on Thursdays from 5:00–8:00pm at Sunnyside Community Services, 43-31 39th Street (between 43rd Ave and Queens Blvd), Sunnyside, NY.
Bring your own bags
Check yourself off the pickup list when you arrive
There is a Swap Box on site — leave vegetables you don't want and swap for something else
If you're splitting a share, the first person to arrive checks off the share and marks the box with their partner's name. Split-share members are solely responsible for ensuring their partner gets an equal share
Please be mindful of the space and keep the pickup area tidy
See the Calendar for exact pickup dates each season.
Share payments can be made as a lump sum or, for subsidized members, in monthly installments. Payment details and options are included in the seasonal contract. The admin fee included in your share price covers organizational costs — our space at SCS, the website, and the Subsidized Share fund.
A limited number of reduced-cost shares are available each season for households experiencing financial hardship. The Subsidized Share Program is 100% funded by Sunnyside CSA members through donations and fundraisers — your full-price membership directly helps make fresh food more accessible in our community.
