Building Your PLN
Connections & Professional Growth
Connections & Professional Growth
Do you know where the term PLN came from?
In 1998, Daniel R. Tobin wrote an article in which her referred to the term, "Personal Learning Network". He used this term to "describe a network of people and resources that support ongoing learning." Tobin was one of many who used this term for networks of individuals connecting for learning, feedback and new insights.
Thanks to Dr. Katia and our participation in this class, we are all connected educators. A connected educator is someone who participates in online communities to build their professional teaching and learning practices. This might include blogging, connecting on social media, participating in online groups and forums, sharing resources and ideas, reading articles, watching videos, listening to podcasts, participating in polls or surveys. In today's extremely connected world, the options are endless.
You are invited to participate by adding YOUR responses to the Padlet Sandbox below.

Listen to my thoughts on my PLN.
As educators and adult students, we have the independence to build our PLN and to choose the resources that will best meet our needs. This helps us to curate a more authentic and meaningful learning network designed to meet our needs and interests.
Our young students also deserve the best learning opportunities. This means actively seeking and providing authentic online learning opportunities for our students. For students who are old enough for social media, this might mean inviting them to use social media platforms to find resources, collaborators and learning tools. But there are also educational platforms designed for any student to connect, create and collaborate in a safe and supervised educational environment.
After watching the video above, add your thoughts in the Padlet below. I encourage you to read and comment on other posts.
Here are some tools you might use to encourage collaborative learning experiences with your students.
