My main objective was to improve PASSENGER EXPERIENCE and provide a space integrated with the surrounding lush greenaries . I zoned the areas according to their functional requirements cut SLITS of vegetation between them thus providing the passengers a space for RELIEF AFTER STRESSFUL LONG QUEUES. The bays connecting the separate masses will serve as a relaxation and socializing zone for passengers. 360 DEGREES runway view from the departure lounges is achieved through JUXTAPOSING the height of the masses and creates a FORM BASED HIERARCHY AND UNIQUE VISTAS from different parts of the terminal. The service areas of the terminal receives ample sunlight thus providing a HEALTHY WORKING SPACE for the employees.
The design provides a unique DYNAMIC backdrop from the static structure that changes it's appearance in different times of the day. FUNCTIONS are zoned according to their needs and requirements. A central circulation axis is in the middle and it is served by peripheral services.Green slits in the middle after a stressful queue creates a “PRESS AND PAUSE” experience for the passengers.
An Airport Terminal is one of the most complex building typologies that is as important as other large-scale public buildings. Nowadays, the passenger terminal buildings are not considered as simply points of arrival for travelers or conversely, gateways for departure, they are now getting importance as nexus of work, trade, commerce and collaboration.
This design studio underwent rigorous study process to design an aesthetically pleasant, efficient, international airport passenger terminal, with flexibility and expansion capabilities, to replace the existing airport terminals of three districts: Saidpur, Sylhet and Cox’s bazar in Bangladesh. The objectives were to design a contemporary airport terminal design incorporating the latest developments in technology and structural system, while remaining loyal to cultural and architectural trends to the city they best represent.
