1. Take the course seriously. This is an official part of training and as is true with most parts of the RA job, you will only get out what you put into it. Being a stellar RA starts now, with the units covered in this course.
2. Ask questions. We would prefer that you ask questions over the summer while taking the course rather than show up to campus in August sharing with us that you struggled to complete the assignments because you were unsure of how to do something or could not access something.
3. Be deliberate, be thorough. Take time and read all of the materials we have provided. The materials contain very useful information that we may not include in training or have time to go over during the year. This applies to the answers and responses that you give as you complete the course. All written responses are expected to be thorough, thoughtful, and at minimum two sentences in length. Requests for revision can be sent at the discretion of the reviewer.
4. Pace yourself. Do not wait until the last day to complete all of the assignments. Being an RA means being organized -- don't start off the school year by having this summer course still hanging above you.
5. Stay in touch. Contact Liz Melendez, lmelendez@ben.edu, if you have any questions.
6. Turn things in on time! All assignments and assessments must be completed before the August Training Start Date
First things first. Check out the units, read it through, and put the deadlines in your calendar so you don't lose track or forget the complete the summer training.
