President Obama Fixing America's Surface Transportation (FAST) Act

In December 2015, President Obama signed into law the Fixing America's Surface Transportation (FAST) Act, which reauthorized federal transportation spending totaling more than $300 billion over five years. These funds are distributed by the US. DOT to states, regional metropolitan planning organizations (MPOs), municipalities, and other transportation sector stakeholders through a combination of formula determined block grants, competitive grant allocations and credit support programs. The FAST ACT includes provisions that can boost transit-oriented development, expanding two financing programs administered by the US DOT. The FAST Act expanded the Transportation Infrastructure Financing and Innovation Act (TIFIA) Program Equitable transit communities are mixed-use, transit-served neighborhoods that provide housing, child development center and transportation choices and great social and economic opportunity for current and future residents. The walking distance around high capacity transit stations, existing within the context of larger neighborhoods with existing residents and businesses.
