Those who have emitted the least amount of greenhouse gases are paying the heaviest price. To ensure a livable and sustainable future for all we need deep, rapid and sustained reductions in greenhouse-gas emissions. We have feasible, effective options available now. Acting now with greater urgency will ensure we don’t miss our chance to create a more sustainable and just world.

What is ecosystem restoration?

UN Environment Programme video June 17, 2021:  “Ecosystems support all life on Earth. The healthier our ecosystems are, the healthier the planet - and its people. The UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration aims to prevent, halt and reverse the degradation of ecosystems on every continent and in every ocean. Laudato Si’ International Conference Saving Our Common Home and the Future of Life on Earth, 5 - 6 July 2018, Vatican City. Aspiring to communicate “a sense of deep urgency and profound concern for the precarious state of our common planetary home”, this conference was organized by the Vatican Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development to celebrate the third anniversary of Laudato Si’. In speaking about this report Pope Francis emphasizes “The Report warns, moreover, that only one decade or so remains in order to achieve this confinement of global warming. Faced with a climate emergency, we must take action accordingly, in order to avoid perpetrating a brutal act of injustice towards the poor and future generations.”
