My teaching career started in 1988 when I was hired to teach science for Andrews High School. In my 20+ years there I taught mainly Life Sciences: Biology (Honors and Regular), AP Biology, Honors Biology II. I have also taught AP Environmental, Earth and Physical Science. In addition I taught NC Wildlife and a unique one time course Teaching Science using SciFi literature. (I really can't remember what we called the course but it was a super fun nerd course). During my later years in addition of my f2f traditional courses I taught for NCVPS. Virtual courses: Anatomy, Biology, Earth and Physical science.
I've worked with curriculum both designing courses and teaching courses in traditional and virtual classrooms.
In the last years in Cherokee County schools I taught at Murphy Middle School, teaching 8th grade science and some technology special classes. Then I was privileged to be an Assistant Principal for Murphy Middle School. During my time there an Educational Specialist job for Central Office came open. I then moved to my own office over Academic Intelligent Gifted programs, along with Coordinating virtual courses and science curriculum.
During the early part of my career I coached Volleyball, a little basketball, and some track. My husband and I also worked with Fellowship of Christian Athletes during our time at Andrews High School.
