Working from home is a joy for many. Lunch and commute expenses are reduced, and there’s no need to show up to work fully clothed. However, remote work might require one to keep their devices plugged in the whole day, a possible cause for utility bills to increase.
Use natural light. Open the drapes to let the light in instead of having to use artificial light throughout the day. Unplug devices when not in use. Productivity may be hampered when there are buzzing phones, TV noise, or flickering lights. Keep your productivity at a high level by using natural light during work hours. Some companies who allow remote work require employees to submit end of day reports instead of clocking in 8 hours a day. Work smarter, not harder. Longer hours does not equal to productivity.
Switch to energy efficient equipment. Opt for energy-saving lights, devices, and even greener options for laptops and computers. Setup computers and laptops for energy savings. Head to the settings and tweak it to save on your electricity bills. Prep meals the night before if you’re known for giving in to last minute meals.
Use the dryer and the heater efficiently. Bump up the thermostat a degree higher and set the dryer in lower heat. Set the washer in lower speed, too. Going low as possible helps save energy and manage utility bills better. Change faulty batteries to lessen the need to stay plugged in for most of the day.
