33 Views is Okay with Me

I released a YouTube video five days ago. It took me two weeks to create the content (and that doesn't include the art) and several days to film and edit it. So far it's received 33 views.

Most people would wonder why anyone would do so much work for so little return. But not me.

When I really started working on this channel, a little over a year ago now, I created "shorts." Because that's what everyone on YouTube said YouTube viewers wanted to see. I've gotten thousands of views on many of my shorts - and I'm grateful for that. The problem is, I'm not fulfilled by creating 45-second videos. I want to make content that allows you to develop trust in me. Not to be too "touchy feely" about it, but, I want a relationship with my audience.

So, a few weeks ago I decided to create the long-form videos I WANT to create - not the content an algorithm THINKS I should create. And, I'm incredibly proud of my last two videos. Especially the latest which, I believe, is my best work by far, not only from a production standpoint but from a teaching and sharing perspective as well.

Yep, only 33 folks have seen it so far. And that's okay. If even one of those 33 folks watched the whole video, I consider it a win. If two watched from beginning to end, I consider it a raging success.

To thank those of you who have stuck with me during my transition from shorts back to long-form, here's a little behind the scenes pic of one of my work spaces. It's where I do most of my painting, drawing, inking and filming. The drafting table in the corner is new to me - but it's actually almost 100 years old. I bought it at an estate sale last weekend. I've been looking for one like this for a while now, so when I saw this on the itemized list of furniture for sale, I couldn't wait to get there to buy it.

I guess what I'm saying is: if 33 is wrong, I don't wanna' be right. Because I'll take a couple of dozen genuinely interested viewers over a few thousand three-second-lookie-loos any day of the week.

Our Power Came Back!

For the past three days we've been struggling with no electricity. We're not the only ones. About 150,000 of us lost power after atrocious storms took out trees, power lines, electric and cable hubs, and in at least two sad cases, the lives of innocent people trying to enjoy their July 4th holiday.

We fared far better than most people and we're incredibly grateful. We have a small solar power system that allows us to run a fan and TV, and charge our phones.

Still, in 90 degrees with high humidity, it was not enjoyable.

We had to trash most of the food in our refrigerator. I cooked as much of the food in the freezer as I could outside on the deck, and we kept that in a cooler. But getting ice was a challenge. Most stores were sold out.

But together, my husband and I made it through. It just goes to show you what you can really endure and accomplish if you need to.

STILL... my video that was supposed to be released today will be late. Like, probably end of the week late. I had no way to work, film and edit - and it couldn't have come at a worse time. I'm SO excited about this video. I believe it's the start of a whole new level of quality and information about running a small art business (if you'll pardon me saying so.)
